Description Happy F7 Friday! I really wanted to get this done by last night but I quit work around 3AM to let my roommate sleep (See? I make compromise). There’s a lot going wrong in this picture, I know. It woulda come out a lot better if I could, like, draw. And color, maybe.

I have this thing for muted, grimy colors, I’m beginning to notice. O.o

Plus many more drawings and a fictional railroad name for all of those engines.

Why knows when I will upload them.

i can sirecly see this happen and it probably would push those diesels right over

I cannot see this happening in real life. In real life, there would be a lot of twisted metal and ruined trackwork. It would almost certainly destroy three locomotives.

This poster is-- how you say-- symbolic. XD

HAppy F7 Friday on a Wednesday!
In my opinion, one of the most beautiful locomotives ever designed! I wish that at least one was preserved.

Thanks.

And that would have been nice. There are engines that are higher on my "wish they had saved one" list, but yes, it would have been nice all the same.

RailroadBrony In reply to Atticus-W [2013-05-01 23:33:40 +0000 UTC]

What are they? and where is the F7?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Atticus-W In reply to RailroadBrony [2013-05-02 02:53:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, Number 1 on my list is the Pennsylvania Railroad T1. Number 2 is a a New York Central Hudson-- any class, really, I suppose. Number 3 would be... well, I don't really have a specific Number 3. I sure would like to have had a B&M light Pacific or a B&M Mountain survive, though.

The F7 isn't really on my list, to be honest. It's kind of a garish-looking thing in my opinion. But any steam engine is still a steam engine.

RailroadBrony In reply to Atticus-W [2013-05-02 22:20:45 +0000 UTC]

A T1? OH HELL YEAH!!! I bet, with today's technology, we could solve the wheel slip problem that they had. It would be neat if a group of people got together and built one from the ground up, like the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust did in England with the Tornado. That was cool.Have you heard that UP is ACTIVELY looking into restoring a Big Boy into operation on behalf of an interested 3rd party? Hope it happens!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Atticus-W In reply to RailroadBrony [2013-05-02 23:28:47 +0000 UTC]

By some accounts, the T1 "wheelslip problem" has been a bit exaggerated by the history books over the ages. A new one would be... interesting. The real T1 was very likely one of the finest ultra-high-speed express passenger steam locomotives ever designed.

And yes, I have heard of UP's newfound interest in restoring a Big Boy. Surely, that could become an interesting project, too.

These engines were actually said to have run 125 miles an hour to boot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Atticus-W In reply to SteamRailwayCompany [2013-06-17 00:41:51 +0000 UTC]

It certainly seems feasible. There weren't any 89 MPH limits back then.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SteamRailwayCompany In reply to Atticus-W [2013-06-17 00:48:58 +0000 UTC]

Railroads need to throw the speed limits out the window now. While safety is one of the greatest assets railroad passenger trains have, there is no reason why they can't go over 100 miles an hour also. People aren't going to want to take a train unless they get a move on. Steam was running at higher speeds than Amtrak is now.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Atticus-W In reply to SteamRailwayCompany [2013-06-17 06:38:02 +0000 UTC]

True. I suspect that most current speed limits have more to do with legal protection issues than true safety issues. And, of course, people are always afraid of a "high speed train" crossing a highway at grade since, you know, they know that they are too dumb to stop at flashing red lights and lowered gates these days.

Of course, it's also entirely possible that current main line trackage, which is maintained optimally for heavy freight traffic by companies that only haul freight, is no longer comparable to the truly immaculate trackage that once guided 120 MPH rail-scorching steamliners run by dual-purpose companies.
