mk, lets get to critiquing. take note that my critiques are meant to be objective and by no means offensive. alright? starting time

the overall concept and composition of this is great, and I love how the long cloak seems to become a sea for the mythology and all. watch some of the detail placement though, as those white clouds are blending in with the white back of the dragon. that white curve cloud thing above the boat is peculiar looking as well, and I can't tell what it is.


not sure if this was intentional, but it's rather perplexing how all the mythological things are warm hues like red and orange except the dragon, which is a cool hue and is almost blending in with the cloak. for consistency's sake, I think it'd be more balanced if the dragon was a warm hue. same goes for that lily pad. either that, or you could mix it up so the majority of stuff doesn't look to be all the same hue

you've got lots of white space on the left, and you could have cropped this a bit better so that side doesn't look dull. another thing that seems to be lacking is the emotions in this. this should show these mythological beings bursting out, filled with energy and emotion. that seems lacking in this, and it hinders the piece.

your choice in mythological beings is rather balanced, just place them a bit better.

so, to sum up, you've got a great idea and overall good piece here, just improve your composition and color balance a bit. nice job

This is very very pretty. The only things I can really pick out are the blurs to the right and the little bit of spill over from watercolors.
The only real critique I have here is for the dragon, his face seems a little awkward. This may be because he seems to be missing a lower jaw

Anyways, beautiful work, keep it up!

So let me start off with your technique. I know watercolours are really hard to control, with the way they spread, so I see why you a border around different things to keep the colours from bleeding into each other. Usually, I would be a little put off by this, but it actually works for this picture. It just seems to add to the fairytale/myth/legend theme you have going on.

I also really love the colours you have, especially for the dragon. You have blue, but I see you used green for the shading, and it created this gorgeous gradient look, so that its not just one colour but two.

Something you could work on is how much water you have on your brush. I see in some places, your colours escaped the lines, and all I can say is maybe try working with less water to minimize spreading. Also, it's a little blurry to the right, whereas the left with the girl has great clarity. You could fix this by adjusting this in an image editing program.

All in all, it's a great picture, and I'd love to see what else you can do.
