Dreams are always filled with legends - The Flute playerDidn't really come the way I expected it to be...
Okay, I just wanted to try something with some japanese / chinese mythology. The girl is supposed to be narrating the stories of all the legends behind her, with her instrument's music.
I know it's a little bit weird : an occidental looking girl (brown curly hair) having all these oriental dreams in mind... But I first wanted to draw Galadriel (from the Lord of The Rings), but I couldn't resign myself to erase the sketch
I REALLY hope you like it. It was suppose to become a masterpiece..... But I messed up everything while painting, as usual XD

I like this a lot. I just left a similar comment on another piece, but (and it is just my opinion) I think I would like this even better with a different background that it not white. Not sure what, but I bet it would really be extra exquisite, then. I have struggled with this in my own work. I do colored pencil and pastel backgrounds, and lately have discovered Copic markers and their fantastic airbrush attachment, which is fab beyond belief.
Just some thoughts for you...

For the background, I first wanted to paint it with some light blue, but I told myself to be careful : I didn't want to mess it up, since I wasn't really happy with the result... I've tried to color with copic markers, but the result wasn't really good... So I keep on coloring with watercolors now ^^

I like mixed media a lot, and I wonder what would happen if you used colored pencil for the background? I also wonder about incorporating gold leaf pens. That could be very neat with Asian themes/elements, I think. Of course, I always love to incorporate gold leaf whenever I can!
I agree that marker or more paint might potentially mess it up. Although I will say that I have started just trusting the process and not worrying so much if it is perfect, or if, for example, when I use the Copic airbrush for backgrounds, if there is overspill etc.
Sometimes I put the background in first so that then when I fill in other colors for the figures etc, it covers up the fact that there is overspray or not perfect "staying where it should" of the background.
My process tends to be pencil drawing, pen and ink that, then start filling in the colorization as the muse directs. Sometimes the background is first. Sometimes I color in the figure and just trust the Universe that when I fill in the background at the end, there will not be too much overspray, or disrespecting of the lines of the prominent, central parts of the piece. I just find a way to make it work, generally, if I make a mistake or "ruin it."
Those are my thoughts. Hopefully that all makes sense. Again, great piece, and keep up the good work!

I don't have ink for now, but I'll start inking my work when I'll get some (probably this summer).
Sometimes, I also find a way to make it work.... Like her dress : I had added to much different colors, it no more looked like a sea
