Description
Name: Arktalaki
Born: November 24, 13000 BC; Siberia
Died: May 21, 12955 BC; Alaska (age 45)
Allegiance: Assassins
Bio: Arktalaki was born into a small nomadic tribe known as the Yi’alut smack in the middle of the Last Glacial Maximum in what we would now call Siberia. The daughter of the chief, she was a well-respected member of the tribe right from the start, even before she earned that respect with her perky attitude, hard work, and goodwill towards her fellow tribespeople. She also seemed to have a way with nature like none other, as she tamed and adopted a little wolf pup whom she named Iwakuk when she was 10. Her people took this as a sign that she was destined for great things.
As the years went by, Arktalaki was taught the ways of her people from her parents and friends. From her father she learned the ways of hunting and gathering, And from her mother she learned the history and myths of her people. She always aspired to be like the heroes in those stories, defenders of humankind. However, a tragedy struck when she was only 16, shattering her seemingly endless sense of hope. A rival tribe known as the Mahanuq had pillaged her tribe and killed everyone but her, leaving her to wander the snows in lonely agony for weeks on end. Directionless, Arktalaki stumbled into a cave during a snowstorm, and inside she met a mysterious old woman who told her she was destined to not only rebuild the Yi’alut, but also an ancient Brotherhood that fought the reign of the Mahanuq. While hesitant at first, Arktalaki agreed to join and train under this “Assassin Mentor” in hopes of getting revenge and seeking justice.
She spent the next year travelling eastward, into what we now call Alaska, and along the way she rescued hundreds of innocent people from the Mahanuq Templars and recovered mysterious “memory disks” from the targets she assassinated. These ancient artifacts contained the memories of Eve, the Brotherhood’s founder, and Tanaguq, the Templar Grand Master, hoped to use them to find the Apple of Eden so that he could obtain ultimate power. Arktalaki cornered him after her people arrived in Alaska, and after a hard fight, she killed him and was about to destroy the Apple when she suddenly received a vision of the Precursor Gabriel telling her to wait until he delivered a message first. She reluctantly agreed, and waited until he was finished talking to destroy the artifact.
Except it proved to be near-indestructible, not bending or melting or even renting despite all the methods Arktalaki tried. Eventually, she and her people settled on being guardians of the Apple instead, standing guard to ensure it was never touched by the hand of man. Arktalaki shifted her focus to colonizing the continent that her people had discovered, as was foretold by Gabriel. She sent dozens of trustworthy explorers to settle the new lands, and 10 years after the fight with Tanaguq, she would find herself travelling across the continent as well. The Apple had given her a vision of a terrifying beast that was threatening her people in the lands now called South America, and so she rushed down south to rescue them before returning back home.
Arktalaki grew to be a well-respected chieftess herself as time flew by. When she passed away at the age of 45, her people gave her a big formal burial, honoring her with paintings of her life littered all across her cave walls. Millennia later, in 1885, her fossilized tomb would be uncovered by the Assassin scientist, Evelyn Arlie. And decades more after that, Arktalaki’s genetic memories would be relived by her modern descendant, Ava Arlie.
