Description Wikipedia

Name: Frederik Lodewijk Anthing
Born: 1820; Batavia, Dutch East Indies
Died: 1883; Dutch East Indies
Allegiance: Templars

Bio: Frederik Lodewijk Anthing was born in the Dutch colonial city of Batavia to a Dutch father and a German mother.  While born in the colonies, Anthing was raised in the Netherlands. He grew up with much promise, earning himself a masters degree in law by his late 20s, and landing a career at the district court office in Semarang in the 1850s.  It was during his stay in Semarang that Anthing became a follower of Pietism. His passion for his newfound faith drove him to devote his life to spreading his doctrine. In particular, he made it his goal to convert the indigenous peoples of the Dutch East Indies to evangelicalism.  It was his preachings that caught the attention of the Indonesian Templars, who recruited him into their fold to act as an agent between them and the indigenous cultures of the islands.

Originally, Anthing used his Templar connections to the fullest, using their resources to support an organization he joined called the Genootschap voor In-en Uitwendige Zending, an organization dedicated to spreading his Gospel.  However, he soon resigned from the organization, deciding that missionary work was best done at a personal level. He moved to Batavia in 1863, recruiting many new people to his faith and his Order along the way. This got him into trouble with the local government, made up of a Muslim majority who didn't like their people being hounded by foreign missionaries who wanted to strip them of their traditions and cultures.  However, Templar threats, coin, and influence brought about a new law in 1873 allowing the preaching of Gospel.

Anthing returned to the Netherlands seeking financial support in 1879, shortly after the Templars killed the Indonesian Assassin Mentor Ibrahim Lamnga and took control over the Dutch East Indies with a firm iron fist.  Anthing joined the Apostolic Church, and was assigned as the apostle of Java. He returned to the Indies in 1882, both to preach his gospel and to assist the local Grand Master, Huibert Gerard Boumeester, in his hunt for a Precursor Temple hidden somewhere in the colonies.  Anthing was assigned to use his contacts amongst the indigenous peoples to look for clues, and he continued his mission until he died in a train wreck in 1883.
