“Something isn't right about this place… I don't know what it is. Maybe it's just the lack of sleep. Maybe it's just the desert heat. But… this little ranch town isn't right. The people here won't talk. About anything. They're just… there. Practically specters in this ghost town. But there are whispers. Whispers of something evil out in the desert. Something beyond this world. Something in the hands of some very bad and very stupid men. Something that I don't think will allow us to leave town until we confront it. I just want to go home and rest. I just want to see my daughter again after a long road. So I guess we have no choice but to wade through this land of horrors on this All Hallow’s Eve. I just hope we can make it out alive.”

Goddammit why did I challenge myself to write a Halloween short story in a month XD

This one has actually been one I've wanted to do for a while. I had a thousand different ideas for short stories for Evelyn because I know way too many adventure stories from the world of paleontology XD Ernst Stromer’s excavations in Egypt, Roy Chapman Andrews in Mongolia, etc. And who knows, maybe I'll write those someday too because I feel those are stories that deserve to be told lol. But for now, it's Spooptober. And there's only one tall tale out of all those ideas that deserves the spotlight. And here it is in the form of “Hallowed Ground”.

The story is set in 1903, in the small desert town of Ranchos de los Brujos, known today as Ghost Ranch, New Mexico. Known today for it's stunningly beautiful landscapes and massive beds of Triassic fossils like those of Coelophysis, back then it was a hotspot for bandits, corruption, and superstition. And in this short story, Evelyn and Chaytan find themselves smack in the middle of it. Caught in the rain one night on the way back from a fossil expedition, the Assassin couple decides to try to stay the night at the local inn. But things quickly go wrong, and they find themselves caught up in another crazy conspiracy involving Pieces of Eden they don't fully understand the nature of, and the whackjobs trying to use them to frighten the townsfolk into their submission. It's a frightful night of monsters in this story, and I'll start uploading the chapters tomorrow So give it a read if you're interested and Happy Halloween in advance, everyone.

Also quick notice: I'm gonna be taking another break from uploading drawings cuz these past couple weeks have been really hard on me and between paperwork and phone calls and all that adult stuff I haven't been able to find the time So I'm gonna use this story as an opportunity to take a break without leaving you guys without any content, especially here at the holiday season. Commissions will still be open, don't worry. And I'm still here to talk and whatnot lol. I just need a little time to take a deep breath and catch up on… my life XD
