Description

A reference sheet for an Assassin's Creed OC that I based off of my great grandfather on my mom's father's side.  He fought the Japanese during World War II.  And while he didn't actually witness Pearl Harbor or Hiroshima as described below, he did encounter many adventures during his travels.

------------

Name: Joseph Louis Balogh

Born: South Bend, Indiana; December 8, 1917

Died: Tavares, Florida; October 18, 1982

Occupation: Soldier, later mechanic

Allegiance: Assassins

Bio: Joseph was the youngest and only son of the Hungarian Assassin (and previous Templar), Jozsef Balogh, who came to America in 1909.  Joseph was raised as an Assassin since childhood, but only learned how to handle a few weapons in his late teens.  His three older sisters were kept out of the fight against the Templars by their parents.  By the 1930s, Joseph was  only carrying out a few missions for his brotherhood.  This gave him plenty of opportunities for normality and social life, however.  He met the woman who would later be his wife, Carrol Green, in his early 30s.  He held a few normal jobs, which generally involved the car industry.  His normal life would be stripped away in 1941, when the second World War broke out.

Joseph was sent out by the Assassins to aid the Allies in their fight against the Axis powers, as well as the Templars that orchestrated the entire war for their own dastardly schemes.  Joseph was sent out to the Pacific on an Assassin warship, the USS Ticonderoga, leaving his normal life behind.  His entire life now revolved around the Assassins and their fight to ensure freedom for humanity.  On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed a United States naval base known as Pearl Harbor, which Joseph was secretly visiting at the time.  He managed to escape the chaos and return to his ship.  Though he never told any of his allies about his visit, the memory of the tragedy stuck in his head for a long while.

Joseph kept fighting until the war finally ended.  He encountered several people and several strange things on his journeys, including a number of First Civilization temples.  He grew tired and fatigued from all of his fighting though, and he constantly questioned how much more he could handle.  He did occasionally manage to get the Assassins to secretly send him home for a few visits with Carrol (during one of which they conceived their first son, Tom), however, these were generally very brief periods.

As the war reached its end in 1945, Joseph finally decided his place in the Assassin/Templar conflict.  On August 6, 1945, the Templars influenced the American government to drop a newly-developed atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Joseph’s ship was stationed in a location that gave him a good view of the hideous fireball.  Even from that distance, Joseph could feel the awful implications of the sight.  It was at that point, Joseph decided he had seen enough blood.

When he returned from service to Indiana, he retired from the Assassins.  The brotherhood understood his reasons and eventually decided to let him leave.  Though they would occasionally call upon him for help, he stayed out of the majority of the conflicts from that point on.  He went back to his mechanic job and returned to Carrol, and the two married.  Their son, Tom, was born in 1943, and their other son, Kenneth, was born in 1952.

Joseph never taught his kids anything about the Assassins or Templars, deciding it would be best if they didn't get caught up in the war he had left.  This, however, would lead to Tom eventually joining the Templars, having met up with them with no previous context.  Joseph never found out that Tom was a Templar, or that he was training his children in the same organization.  Joseph lived the rest of his life without knowing his son was with the enemy.  Joseph continued his life normally, loving his wife, working as a mechanic, all until his death in 1982.

Question: If the Templars recruited Tom, what happened to his brother Kenneth? Did he follow in his brother's footsteps or joined the Assassins instead?

*shrugs* I honestly didn't think that deep into it XD Once I started Project Thunderbird, most of my OCs based on my own family tree kinda slipped away even though I still technically consider them canon to my timeline.
If I had to guess I guess Kenneth would've just stayed neutral.  Their father never told them about the Assassins, and Tom just stumbled upon the Templars by chance.

XD It's not a stupid question at all!  It's pronounced "bay - log" (I hope that helps lol)
Yeah, World War 2 was kind of a sad time, so there aren't many positive scenarios to put him in.
Thanks, tho!
