Description
The two sides of powerful lords meet on the field of battle and prepare themselves for an all out conflict. The wheat is separated from the chaff as heroes do battle for honor and glory. Its a classic tale of ancient Chinese culture. Back in the times of the dynasties, opposing sides presented their heroes and legends were made on the battlefield. Weapons were usually light and deadly but that didn't mean you wouldnt see a warrior charging down on you brandishing a huge staff with a crescent moon shaped blade on one end and a massive crushing counter balance on the other. If you have been looking at all these photos and still have not gone out and tried to find a Beijing opera to watch or read one of the books from "The Three Kingdoms" then I highly suggest you do if you have any interest at all in these kinds of things. This particular scene is from the book "Outlaws of the Marsh", another one of the Chinese classics that has lived for more then 6 centuries.
For this shot I decided to focus on my favorite character from the opera and get his concentrated look when confronted with his enemy. The guy in black with the sword is a very talented actor. I also wanted to capture him with the opposing forces and their hero but wanted the focus to stay on who I thought was the most interesting of the three heroes you can see ready to do battle.
