excellent works as always, really love that wave (I remember it's from some famous painting of a tsunami or tidal wave or something but can't remember what it's called )

Everything was done with the pen tool, straight down to the outlines. Except for the rendition on Hokusai's Waves. It was made with the pencil tool, and a custom brush.

I like how your rendered hokusai's wave. it looks good. the composition on this is great with all the japanese elements.
good job

Thank you. I have always been a fan of Hokusai (Great Waves of Kanazawa), and I decided to pay some homage to him What better time then to use it for this piece?

no prob. I have a book with a bunch of hokusai's work in it, and they have a really good print of the great waves, its nice to look at.

Wow, VERY representative, I must say. Granted a little samurai would maybe complete the picture but I like it a lot.

I wanted to put in a Giesha instead, but I stopped myself from doing so because... c'mon, how many women have I done? Didn't think of the Samurai... nice point. Maybe i'll make a second Go Japan piece.

Only if you want to. The lack of a samurai hardly makes the pic any worse

The best thing about watching you is i never have to give pointers.
All i do is watch, enjoy and learn.
You really captured the feel of Japan.
Although contrary to what i said, i think the dragon should be abit lighter, and you should lose the splat brushes in the bg.
Also i tthink the style of line work on the wave dosnt fit well with the rest of this piece as a whole.
Your flowers and pattern work is amazing as always.
Great job ax

xiaoyu07 [2004-09-30 12:32:19 +0000 UTC]
everything is nice and neat-o but it sweems to be lacking a focal point... oh and i didnt get the "bullet train" right away, i thought it was R2D2 or some robot at first. but, yes, it is a bullet train...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
axii In reply to xiaoyu07 [2004-10-03 07:11:33 +0000 UTC]
It's not a bullet train, it's Japan's Shinkansen
I purposely left out a focal point, and wanted the viewer to look at the whole piece instead... that is what makes this a "Japan" piece, I think.
