The version of the game used in the video is a very, VERY old one, before you could fly on the building game mode. (There's a survival mode, and a building, or creative, as it's called, mode where you're invincible and you can fly.)
So you cam probably imagine how hard it must have been without being able to fly!
This video came out only a few weeks after Minecraft itself did

According to Wiki, The Creators of the Animaniacs made the images of the Warners similar to cartoon characters of the early 1930s. Simple black and white drawings were very common in cartoons of the 1920s and 1930s, such as Buddy , Felix the Cat , Oswald the Lucky Rabbit , and the early versions of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse .

The top two on the left hand corner remind me of Mickey(not that it matters, since they're btoh similar.
