A request by .This is another Universal Array, and simply allows the Alchemist to recompose earthen materials, and materials made of iron.

Not unless you want it to. Because of the Array's design, the alchemist chooses the area of effect. So if it were on the flat of the sword blade, and you activated it, you could use the Array to alter the sword, or anything the sword was touching, so long as it has iron or is made from other earthen materials.
