Description
Here are a couple more angels I hadn't uploaded before and I added the previous ones too so I can compress my gallery and make the armor easier to look at. Feel free to DL the extra large version to see all the cool details.Sporting the armor is my friend G. Lyle. The owner still hasn't given me any pics of himself in the armor but he did mention winning the Halloween contest he went to so thats cool. As far as I know he still intends to commission the rest of the suit with full legs, helmet and other various parts and it will be very incredible then I think.

Your work is absolutely superb, I haven't seen armor so well done... well quite honestly... EVER! I just have two little questions XD
How is it you custom fit the armor if the person is not "there" with you while you do it?... and how do you stiffen your leather properly?... I'm trying to dabble a bit myself and have the tools and materials, but online guides aren't as helpful as I'd like.

Truly awesome work, man. I've seen shops at renfests that doesn't even come close to what you've got here.

Mostly go to the Michigan fest in Holly, though I've also been to Silverleaf (also in MI) and the Bristol faire in Wisconsin once. Been going to the MRF for years now.

I wish you had taken these pics on a light backdrop. His shoulders look a little narrow because he's in front of dark greens. The black blends in. Looks great though!

Hmmm photography is one of those things that fascinates me and interests me greatly but I have no natural talent for it and no education of the techniques. Just a point and shoot on auto and try to touch things up in PS. I need to make time and learn some tricks I think. Lighting is the main thing though I think, of which is generally poor in my photos.

Me too. Before I spent the last 17 yrs traveling the world for the Navy, I was supposed to apprentice with a photographer but backed out. Wish I had. There's so much I DON'T know.
I write when I can and had an offer to get editted for publishing thru Random house. Who says you need college to get ahead in life! haha
And with your leather skills, you can make some $$.

Have you tried replicating finger armor with leather? I have a whole set in my stock account that you could use for reference. That way, if someone didn't want their kid having steel talons on their fingers, they could have it in leather and no harm, no foul?
I AM SUCH A GENIOUS!

This is absolutely stunning--this time the skirts are high enough not to make the subject look like a dwarf, too. Now that I know you aren't wearing these yourself, some of the dimensions make more sense. Same as before--bring in the entire waist (that's the lower torso, not the actual waistline) to give the entire thing a more fitted look that'll make whoever's wearing it look more cut and movie-like.
On this piece, the white coloring in the front and back actually help with that a lot.
How much does it cost you (in time and money) to put one of these together?

Azmal In reply to raelislington [2007-11-22 16:03:48 +0000 UTC]
What exactly do you mean by bring in? Raise/shorten the torso armor? Time just depends on what's being made and how much of it is being made. This I think took like 2-3 weeks with long hours. I also had a few other projects going too so it's hard to calculate. Finances I keep to myself ; )

raelislington In reply to Azmal [2007-11-22 19:12:08 +0000 UTC]
"Bring it in" as far as the width goes. So it looks less boxy and has a more human shape to it. Hm...like a corset. Make sense?

Azmal In reply to raelislington [2007-11-22 19:40:44 +0000 UTC]
Well it is possible to do that with a different style of breastplate that creates the illusion of an hourglass figure, but this is reminiscent of lorica segmentata. If the person doesn't have the 'corseted' shape then it will not look as such with this variant style of torso as it fits directly to the person on each layer. I do though try to make the tassets so they give some more shape and shape flare to the armor.
Do you have perhaps an example of armor in mind of how it should look?
