I've had these characters for a long time without any new changes physically. This is more or less an idea of experiment to draw them in different looks.Personally I still prefer the old version of them. I like how Nezumi looks in this one than the older version but not so much with the new look for Dezai.
In the most case I may adapt to this new look for Nezumi as my "personal" character so it'll be divided from the "story".

Yeah the story itself is mainly focusing on romance.
Nezumi is series in this story and he still is.
This one would be representation of myself as individual with more "human" side.

I will say that your cell is exceptionally clean, it's a good look for your line-art style. And I completely support creating non-canon versions of your characters for personal use ^^ It's how I can keep hold of my original Nick despite all the character growth he goes through every time I write a new story.
As it stands, I'm torn as to which I like more; while the cell really does go well with your line-arts, the blending makes the colour stand out from the crowd. If I had to make a decision based on this alone, however, I'd pick the cell shading. Why not try a few more in the cell? We could make a better informed decision and you would have something else to compare to. If it were me, I'd go for the twins and Nightmare in a single shot, all cell shaded. Then compare them to the shots that you have of them in the blended style, it'll give you a better handle on the difference between them.
But all in all, I still want to get a hold of you and see what makes you tick...

Non-canon version? What do you mean?
Usually I don't really need people to pick a favorite since I know people like different styles already. Some popular styles may not be others' choices.
I can probably stick with one style depending on the pictures I draw. Some pictures work great with one while others can do with another type of coloring.
Blending style always look more "CG" or "illustrated" to me since they look painterly. Cel Shade would be "anime" or some degrees of "CG" too. It's really up to people to see which one they like.

Canon is the official version of something, like the director's translations of a movie, or a plot line that is accepted as part of the story, and not considered a sideline bit that doesn't really happen. For example the Ah! My Goddess mangas are considered canon, while the OAV sets things up a little differently and makes things happen slightly differently too, yet again the TV series tries to stick to canon events, but reorders them to make things a little more exciting for the viewer. And to top it off, the Movie is a spin-off event with no relation to the progress of the actual story, with characters invented that didn't exist in the original, and with character development that doesn't happen in the same way as the manga.
So, having a variation of Nightmare to use as your personal representative, who doesn't share the exact same stylings, story or situations as the 'real' one, is non-canon. Likewise any of my Nick's that are created outside of the original incarnation of him as a Seraphim Transcendant are non-canon and don't count towards the actual plot of the Flight story ^^

I guess you could say Nezumi and Nightmare used to be the same person but then there's a split to two different individuals. This version of Nezumi here would be more related to me as a person.

So are you doing cell shade for Nez and then your "original" to the other?
Personally speaking, I do like the color style that you did for Dezai over Nez.
On the other hand, Nez's style seems to make it more clean and probably idea for things if you ever had to professional work.. or something. XD
I think there's goods and bads for both, I'd say. Nevertheless, I like them both.

Dezai is more cheerful but not as outgoing as Shal. I was planning to draw her in too but don't know where to put her in.
I probably will draw them in the old style. I'd draw anything relates to myself using the "new" Nezumi looks though. X3

ha ha thats cool look big bro. mine is simple to switch since i made my fur's color the same as skin. all you have to do is remove furry cheeks, and replace cat nose with human nose.
