I suppose both is difficult I'd prefer to have the design done with material that is a little shiny. On a carpet, except it's made of silk, it would look dull or muted and also the contrast would not be as sharp and clean

True; silk would be the best possible fibre choice, but awfully expensive; still, it's a nice fantasy

The "New rules" bit comes from the fact that I play pool perhaps once per year and each time, the rules seem to be different So the idea of changing rules for such a venerable game as backgammon amused me
