Description
This is another creation in my mechanical memory series.I have followed on from the mechanical pendant with a new creation- Mechanical Memory Cufflinks.
In this particular design I have created two unique cufflinks, both of which feature an 8gb usb drive concealed inside. This not only removes the need to separately carry a usb key to the office, but also enables you to have one for work and one for personal use.
The item has been made from the ground up taking 10 hours to complete. I have used the highest quality 8GB flash memory in each cufflink, housed in a hand carved walnut chassis with around 30individual parts. It features a blue activity LED framed by a metal ring that shows through the lid of the key when working. On the back I have securely attached sterling silver cufflink findings.
All the watch parts have come from damaged or irreparable pocket watches that have been hand disassembled and then combined to create a true, miniature work of art.

This item is now sold.

Really beautiful. I found a 4GB flash drive in a parking lot today that has a horribly smashed case but is in perfect working order. I've been on a steampunk fling this week and I want to make a nice new steampunk case for it. I find your work very inspiring

Where did you find such tiny flash drives to work with? I don't think I've ever seen one that small. Awesome job.

The flash drives I use for both my cufflinks and pendants are Lexar Echo Ze. They are about as tiny as a USB drive can get

Given that these are cufflinks, they could well be exposed to the weather as many jackets stop about the same length. Are these water resistant in any fashion when the cap is placed?

Ahh this already crossed my mind when at the designing stage. All parts of the usb key are protected within it's wooden chassis.
Although I wouldn't suggest completely submerging them in water they are most definitely water resistant

That's good to know. Fobs and such that go around your neck or in a pocket or purse aren't likely to be exposed unless someone spills something down their shirt or something ruptures in the bag.
Going to wash your hands involves water that will go everywhere, even if in usually negligible amounts.

there was an episode of White Collar this year, where Agent Burke had some sort of tech device in one of his cuff links when he went under cover... I don't think it was storage, like these are, but along similar lines
cool stuff ^_^

I personally probably wouldn't use something like these, but the combination of style and practicality is really something. Particularly as most USB things just come with lanyards or keyrings. Neither is exactly the most convenient way of carrying them.

Thank you for your honesty, I appreciate my work isn't for everyone. My main aim with this piece was to bring my style to a usb key that was more practical. Even though this is not something you would use it is great that the initial thought with this key is apparent to others.
I mean who wants to fumble about in their bag or pocket for a usb key when they could have it to hand all the time without it looking too obvious.
