Personality:
Harper is a particularly distant person. Prior to his death in 1601, he was quite the opposite, an outgoing, social person. Now he’s become far more withdrawn, and tends not to go out of his way to meet up with people. In his classes his bland and straight forward, to the point where, most likely, the students get sick of him droning on. This seems to be why half way through most of the lectures, he resorts to just putting the notes on overheads and letting the students copy down the information, the practical tutorials being made up of short, clipped instructions.
He can show moments of rare emotion, extending beyond his usual range of spoon, but only with those he truly trusts, or has known for quite a while. When these relaxed moods come on, he tends to show some sort of other personality, almost like there is another person hiding under the wonderfully chilly exterior.
History:
Something that Harper will not admit to anyone outside of his long standing circle of trust, aside from what his original, full, Italian name was, is what he was before he was adopted by a hunter in 1591. Born in 1575, and raised to the age of nine by his ailing, sickly mother, Harper was soon abandoned in a brothel in Venice, his mother disappearing after handing him to the owner. For a time, he grew as aid to the owner, keeping the brothel relatively clean. However, at age 12, he was added to the many charges in the brothel, being educated in the ways of heavy amounts of kohl, silk pillows, incense, and a good touch. At the age of 16, he was bought by a hunter, who’d come to the brothel, and seen the oversexed, drugged teen, and decided that his long awaited apprentice lay in that boy.
For the next ten years, the hunter, Atticus, trained him in the art of hunting the supernatural, until one night a band of vampires they had been hunting decided to turn the tables, hunting the pair down instead, murdering Atticus, and, in a fit of irony, turning Harper.
For the next 100 years, he lived with that coven, becoming trained by them in his new body and powers, and learning to accept them and the others he’d hunted as individuals. However, he never really was who he had been after that, blaming himself for Atticus’ death, and his own fate, as well as feeling heavy remorse for those he’d killed simply because he believed them to be evil.
He roamed the world, eventually dropping his old Italian name that he claims to no longer remember, in favour of the name, single, Harper, finding contacts, and learning to control different people in different ways as his power increased with age. In the early 2000s, he finally decided to make something of himself, and applied to teach at Arcadium. Since then he has become somewhat of a staple at the school, the odd professor everyone talks about behind his back.
