Well done *sarcasm* to me for finishing this weeks ago and being too lazy/unmotivated to do the story... I really need to stop doing that and nuclei down!
Anyway, hope ya like it, Ellie! I worked really hard on this!!

Theyn gave Sunny one last pat before leading him out towards the arena. The big, palomino stallion was relatively calm, considering how excited most of the horses at the yard were since it was the beginning of the summer training camp.
“So how’re you today, Sunny?” She asked, checking the straps of his bridle as the stallion walked beside her.
Sunny’s dark brown eyes darted to her, his ears falling back and to the side, listening. He had already figured out that Theyn could talk to horses, but he wasn’t quite sure he was ready to reply to her… It was far too odd.
“Oh, fine, leave me out of the know.” She said sarcastically, and walked on in silence.
They crossed the yard to the big outdoor arena, Lukas keeping a good distance away from Sunny since being introduced to Ammo had caused the poor horse a bit of a fright.

Theyn hadn’t been told to do anything too specific with Sunny, but just to work on his control and making sure he doesn’t rush obstacles. She first had him jumping small cross-polls, working up to larger jumps as he warmed up to the heat of the day and relaxed a little.

“Good boy,” she praised, perched on his back like an animal, having abandoned the use of a saddle in the aim to get him to relax a little more whilst jumping. They cantered forward, swerving in and out of small barrels and jumping wings and over a couple of polls lying on the floor.
Sunny grunted, collecting himself up as they passed over the polls and he flicked his tail in slight annoyance to how he was really having to work.
Uurgh… how much more is she going to push me…? He asked himself.
“Quite a bit more time.” Theyn replied. Sunny started, pulling himself up short and abruptly sending Theyn’s carefully balanced body off over his shoulder. “Yghaa!” She squealed, landing with her back on the ground from where she’d somersaulted off him.
Sunny backed up, frightened by her sudden appearance by his forehooves and reared a little, but was careful not to land his hooves on her.
“Shit!” Theyn grunted, pulling herself to her feet and brushing red dust out of her hair. “Sunny, chill!” Her voice was stern, unnerving, but still soft enough not to startle him too much. Lukas stood up and growled from the side of the arena, his tail thrashed and he let out a rather loud hiss. “Hush, Luke!” Theyn commanded, shaking the arena dust from her hair and vaulting immediately back onto Sunny’s back. She perched over his withers for a few seconds, balancing precariously, trying her best to use her tail’s vertical movements to keep herself poised – rather than thrashing in all directions as she usually did.
Sunny’s eyes and ears were focused on her, but as she asked him to move forward, Sunny bounded off at a spanking trot, his head up high and legs wild and uncontrolled until took up the reins and asked him to collect himself. The stallion took but a moment to oblige, pulling his legs back under control and tipping his weight back into his haunches, letting Theyn tip her body more upright and then relax the reins a little more as his body became more supple.
“Ready for some jumps, boy?” She asked him, and he squealed in excitement as Theyn knotted the reins at the base of his neck and leapt expertly from his back. Sunny drew himself up within ten seconds, and waited patiently as Theyn pulled out a couple of polls and wings and set up an obstacle at about 2ft. “Think you can manage that.”
Think I can manage that… Sunny scoffed, giving Theyn a wry look. She smiled warmly and vaulted back up, finding her feet pressed firmly behind his shoulders and hands resting on his withers.
“Show me what you can do then.” She said, and Sunny trotted forward, shifting into a lolloping canter and popping straight over.
Piece of cake.
Theyn laughed, patting his shoulder. “Right, well turn around and do it again.” She gave a small instructional tug on one rein and Sunny swung right around on a penny, putting in a long and a short stride before taking himself over again. “Nice balance.”
I'll admit you’re helping, Theyn. He said and Theyn smirked, having heard similar things from most horses she jumped bareback – a rider could often shift their weight to benefit themselves, rather than their mounts when jumping.

Theyn progressively increased the height of the jump, changing wings every so often until she finally had Sunny in such a mindset that they could comfortably tackle the harder obstacles.
The wall.
The wall was a jump that was not only big and scary, but also the same color as the arena earth… so both horse and rider really had to get their hearts set on clearing it – especially when there were no plants or anything on the sides to make it actually clear from a distance.
Sunny instantly tensed a little, his ears lying back as he looked at the jump, and he circled it slowly when Theyn let the reins go and sat normally upon his back.
“No worries, it won’t move or anything.”
Sunny came up to the side, stretching out his muzzle cautiously and feeling it with his lips. I'm not convinced.
“Trust me.” She said softly, and quite inexplicably, Sunny did.

They rounded an abandoned wing in the middle of the arena at a canter, switching leads they did, and Theyn checked him back firmly with the reins, perched above his withers again. Her breathing as Sunny’s was in time, her fingers tracing little figures of eight on his withers or curling about the ends of his mane, her voice ever soothing to his ears. She held him together as they rounded the corner and then released the reins as he came up straight.
“Dead ahead.” She whispered. “It’s all you.” Theyn checked his speed one more time before letting Sunny judge his final three strides and power himself up. He soared straight over the jump, neither hooves nor barrel within four inches of the wall and landed solidly on the other side with a smile on both horse and rider’s faces.
