Description
Walk cycles are now officially the bane of my existence!I wanted something featuring a chap in Regency fashion for my website. In fact I just wanted to draw said chap, not sweat blood over a little animation! D> I guess I'm some sort of masochist...
Frames drawn and coloured in Paint Tool SAI, animated in Photoshop.

I came for the animated regency chap, stayed for the artwork! I love how you colour stuff btw.

great drawings. I love the secondary action you've added! However something looks a bit funny when his back arm comes forward, and the front arm doesnt follow through with the action. Either way awesome! I really love your animation work!

It can use a few more in-between drawings, but that's really good!

Is me or does he look really happy, like he's whistling/singing to himself?

I would work directly in Photoshop, but it lags horribly for me so I have no choice but to use SAI. X(
Thanks so much!

How many walk cycles have you created? I'd love to see more.
This animation is really good for an 8 frame walk cycle. Please add some more inbetweens, I would love to see this animation finished/polished.
I do see a few issues with the loop, the final two frames jerk - quite noticeable on the foot close to the audience. The spacing of the farthest leg doesn't look correct, almost the same position as the previous frame.
There are problems with the arcs on all the limbs - they jump up and down slightly. I noticed that the fingers open mid step - was this a mistake or was the character swinging the cane from the front of his hand to the back?
Overall, wonderful cycle - shows off the character greatly. Such purpose in his step. Fix up those points, add some inbetween frames and I'll be even more envious of your animation.

Um, I think to date this is the only complete one I've made. I think I've attempted two or so before this.
Thank you so much for the crit! My worst fault is that I can't get anything to look consistent, so all the jerkiness is really just bad drawing. I sort of hit a wall and didn't know how to fix a lot of things, but I'll definitely take it into account for next time. ^^
Thank you, I don't think I'll do any more to this particular walk cycle but I will try and make a new one in future. ^^

Well I must say, that is incredible - your first complete one was a great start. Again, please post more animations - I'd love to see any create. (Your work makes me envious and that gets me back into animating things myself.)
My pleasure! Do you study animation or just doing animation as a hobby?
I understand what you mean - it is really hard when you start out to make the drawings consistent. I think it was just trial and error for me, a lot of rubbing out and redoing it until it looked right. Do you plan out your animations prior to drawing the frames? If you'd like I can link you a tonne of animation tips/tricks etc that I've collected over the years. I've hoarded a lot of information and have been quite selfish about it.
But I do what I can to get ahead.

oh my gosh I can't believe how smooth and natural this is! Some walk cycles have this stiffness which you avoided here - you can tell his attitude right away

It looks like he's either tripping or maybe leaning far to the side.. is that purposeful? In any case, I love his design.

wow!! Amazing, it's like classic animation. Just love the attitude the chap gives when he walk. Maybe next time a newspaper boy is included?
P.S How many frames is that?

Thank you! If I had some more time I was going to add some adoring ladies that he passes by. xD A newspaper boy would be cute too!
It's 8 frames overall. :>

I really like your animation. I like the guy's style. What you call masochist seems like a desire to surpass yourself. Keep working like this and you'll become very great.

Thank you! That's a nice way of putting it... It certainly doesn't feel like a way to improve at the time but I think I learn a lot looking back on it, haha.
