Description okay, i'm willing to admit it...i am sherlocked.

i watched all six episodes for the first time about five days ago, and i was struck by the brilliant writing, the respect for the canon, the fantastic acting, and benedict's cheekbones. *shot* no, seriously, it's actually really great. like any good purist i was skeptical, but they have really made this work. i think benny's the next jeremy brett, to be honest, and as long as the writers don't wimp out and do something stupid (like has happened for every other screen holmes at some point) this series could go forever. however, i have a suspicion it's going to be very short-lived... there will be a third season...maybe a fourth. but i think this is one of those things where...they topped out too early. they should have saved moriarty for later. but, we'll find out... hopefully, my worries will be unfounded.

anyway. on to my long-winded meme opinions...

i truthfully like sherlock and john equally in this series, they both do excellently. but i love that picture so much! he's very holmes in it, i think...

donovan needs to go back to whatever job she had before she joined the police force. seriously. why is that all women just want to cause trouble??? it's their inherent flaw, and sherlock's wise to keep his distance from most females.

lol i can't draw in paint. but seriously, you know there's nothing more important to anthea than that phone XD

and this now is the crux of it... i hate pairings. slash or het, leave it alone please! if it's not on the screen, why are you imagining things? to satisfy some need in your twisted minds?? to have an excuse to write porn!? that's what 90% of fanfiction is these days y'all who dig pairings out there really have ruined fandoms for sane people who prefer to confine their adoration to what is real, not imagined, because we can't search the internet for anything without being confronted with NC-17 rated fics and art. flame me if you want, but my mind is not changing. i hate pairings. lol i forgot to write SH+MH and cross it out... shows you how little i think about pairings XD

molly and lestrade are awesome characters what is the original quote about irene, that she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex? THAT line should be used to describe molly. because no matter what sherlock throws at her, she's as loyal and true as watson is. i'm very interested to see if her role expands in the third season (since you know she's in on the fact that sherlock's alive). and then of course there's lestrade, who calls ahead to give sherlock a warning that he's going to be arrested if he wants to get away. it's a departure from the canon portrayal of the character, but at least one policeman on the force had to have a brain, or i doubt sherlock would work with them at all. and i've gotta say...he's quite handsome.

moriarty. obviously not a canon portrayal, but you know what? it's the first portrayal that hasn't been lame. for the first time ever, he has been smart and scary onscreen, and you really see that spider that holmes is so bent on destroying in the canon. not just a frowning old bald guy... and i really don't like irene. i can kind of accept what they did with her character...but in the end she was really a wimp. just another emotional female... not nearly the equal to holmes that moriarty is and was portrayed as. so, yeah, she's my least favorite villain.

okay, i'm still on the edge of my seat for that scene! for just a few moments, sherlock is not one step ahead, and that look on his face can't be duplicated. you can see him actually consider for the briefest moment that it's been john all along, and...wow, what a plot twist. excellently written and acted.

now this one, not only was it fantastically written and acted, but...what would you call it, directing? the way they sequenced it, splicing the police scenes with moriarty's story was really great. and watching sherlock get angry... it's just great. and moriarty's delivery of those lines is fantastic. he really is the evil genius. i'm going to miss him XD

sorry, fangirls, no hugs are in their future. it's going to be yelling, and swearing, and brawling, and probably even angry refusal by john to even speak to sherlock. believe what you want, but this is the most probable prediction.

my wallpaper is from the a-team, currently. but poor john... that moment when sherlock realized he couldn't do it with john, had to do it alone... it was precipitated by this scene. i'm kind of wondering if over time john actually does begin to believe the lie... at least, sherlock thought he could be convinced of it. i feel the plot-bunnies beginning to hop...

Maybe it's just that you've not yet managed to find the good fics in which pairings are not only justified (within the author universe, but in some cases even outside it) but often used to also better understand the characters' psychology and motivations. There are amazing writers in fandom who contribute with fics that involve pairings of some sort as well as fics that remain "unattached": I feel is a bit narrow-minded of you to condemn an entire category just because the mere idea of a story with a not-canon pair bothers you. I also feel that, obviously, it is your right not to read and/or enjoy that kind of fics, but at the same time I do not understand the need to hate them just because they exist.

yes, there are amazing writers out there who craft fantastic stories that involve pairings. but trying to find the good ones these days is like trying to find a diamond in a landfill. the bad far outweighs the good and has for a number of years now, and i'm tired of wading through garbage trying to find diamonds. and most of the time, when i think i've found a diamond, it's just cubic zirconium. the real diamonds are nearly impossible to find, and, well...that's my personal standard for fanfiction overall, whether pairings are involved or not.

If I might make a comment about pairings? I don't mean to argue or bash, please understand: I would just like to clarify something. If I'm reading your opinions aright, you believe that pairings in general (regardless of show, yes?) are un-canonical and erotic (in fic and art).

I'd like especially to address that second bit, because that was the truly distressing one. I'm a shipping kind of gal - a big romantic, y'know (and I totally blame it on my mom, lol) - but here's the thing: I hate NC-17. I don't even like to read sex scenes within marriage, let alone outside of it! And I'm not alone: I have several friends/acquaintances who feel the same way.

I guess my point is that not all shippers/fans who like pairings want to see their couple having sex. Granted, we're not in the majority, sadly, but we do exist. And it's really distressing to see us being lumped with the people who do like NC-17, simply because the one thing that we have in common is liking pairings/shipping.

(And on a more minor note, many pairings do have a basis in on-screen chemistry. Granted, not all do; certainly not all the pairings in the Sherlock fandom - slash especially - but quite a few do have some justification. For example, I'm an unashamed Sherlolly shipper: more of a one-sided relationship, and a platonic one at that, but I still enjoy a decently-characterized, decently-moral Sherlock/Molly fic. Just my two cents on the matter, and you're welcome to take them for what they're worth. Above all, please understand that I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything, because I've seen your work, I know your standards, and I respect you very much, especially as a sister in Christ. )

i see your point, yes. i suppose i was over-generalizing the fandom. it does seem that the great majority are just interested in pairings for the erotica though. as for non-erotic, normal pairings, i believe they have to have a basis in reality, like you say. as far as the canon goes, i never see any realistic reason to pair holmes with anyone. and as far as this show goes (which the meme refers to naturally) i still don't really see any possibilities with him. people can argue for irene i suppose, but in the end, what does he do? states that she has proven to him that love is dangerous, etc etc... but that's my personal opinion. it's not the canon, and for all i know the writers intended for him to like her a little. though i try to interpret it within canon guidelines. it's other pairings that really bother me. like mycroft/lestrade. seriously?!? where is THAT coming from???? but i might be able to appreciate something like sherlock/molly if it was excellently done. i don't like fanfics that just stick people together for the sake of it, without actual plot, character development, etc. i actually happen to love pairings too, i just have extremely high standards. so yeah, i was really only referring to the erotica and pointless randomness with the meme. and, thanks for your respect, it's extremely appreciated!

I love Molly too! I really do hope that something nice happens to her in S3. She really deserves it, especially after everything everyone around her has put her through. Also, not a huge fan of Donovan either, mostly because of what she did in S2. However, I like to think she's not a complete jerk all the time, and that she's got her reasons for acting the way she does.

Thanks for filling it out!

i have a feeling molly's role will expand a bit, especially since she's (as far as we know) the only person who knows for sure sherlock faked his death. she's a pretty popular character. donovan actually isn't really convincing me very much in retrospect... her actress could step it up a bit. because i really don't see a clear motive for her actions.

you're welcome, thanks for commenting!
