I actually like to imagine that in this drawing, this man is not, in fact, "Jack Skellington" at all, but rather John Mansard--the young man who used to make up stories about scary old Jack Skellington to scare his little nieces and nephews. On Halloween nights, John (known as "Jack" to most) would masquerade as his "creation/alias", "Jack Skellington".

Halloween is coming. This is a thing that makes me happy. ^__^
Last year around this time I downloaded a bunch of halloween songs from iTunes--one of which was "This is Halloween" from Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas. I LOVE that song, and had in mind to draw a human (emo version, apparently... xD) Jack Skellington. (as many other folks have already done). So I drew this last year, and, at first, had kind-of decided not to finish it because his arms were lookin' pretty wonky, and he had no legs at all. But I still really liked his face, the design of his hair, and the overall shape of his costume (the shape of his suit coat collar reminds me of of a coffin--or a mansard-style roof ^__^), so I decided to crop the drawing as a portrait and color it anyway. for the sake of doing something halloweeny without actually having to draw something new... yeah...
It wasn't too difficult for me to decided that my version of human Jack's hair should be a nice "spiced pumpkin orange" I'd seen other interpretations of "human Jack"--most artists seem to favor a nice shocked white to resemble the color of his hairless skull. (makes sense, huh?) Others chose black, and there were also a few other human Jacks with orange-tinted hair. I just felt like, for my drawing, the composition needed a bit more color to bring it "to life"--that, and the shape of his hair kind-of reminded me of the shape of a pumpkin anyway. lol "pumpkin head" xD
I also really like how the textures turned out in this. I <3 textures! ^__^

Defiently Best Human!Jack I've seen. I dislike the idea of the Silver or white hair. And then the ones I've seen of Black are always funky looking.

Oooo, this is quite different. The hair color is a nice surprise though (I don't particularly care for him with silver/white hair) and the backstory is a very creative twist! He looks very good as a human :3

Actually, I like the idea of him having that color hair. One: Elfman had that hair color, and he does Jack's singing voice, so it's kinda like a nice "in honor" of to him. Two: it's Halloween! The color instantly brings to mind pumpkins, apple cider, and the classic orange pumpkin suckers

The jacket's texture is really clean, and I love the melancholy feel to the picture itself.

What I like: All I saw was the title and the thumbnail, and I knew who it was. I think it's the posture, the slightly melancholy expression, and the inimitable costume (of course!) that brings this marvel together for me.

yay! glad I left the comment, then. ^__^ I think it's really cool how Tegaki's just another way to connect with other people who are on deviantART almost... on a more personal level? It kinda feels that way. I've been on Tegaki for maybe a month and I've already connected with at least three other artist on deviantART because of it. It's pretty cool.
Also... I have noticed that people don't really comment much on Tegaki (unless something is REALLY good--that's true with deviantART too, I guess, but at least you can see when people add stuff to their

Yeah. I was pretty excited with how well that turned out. It's just one of those things where I find textures and play around with it and see what works and what doesn't. I was really lucky to find that texture. I feel like his jacket almost looks tangible--especially right around his mid-section, and the pinstripes add to the illusion. The pinstripes were drawn in with photoshop and my mouse. I usually don't like to draw things in like that, but because of the texture it blended really well, I think.

Oh. Thank you very much! ^__^ Actually, I will argue that there are (what I believe to be) more accurate representations of the original Jack Skellington character than this particular drawing that I've done of him.
Although, I suppose that I didn't exactly have THE Jack Skellington in mind while making this. Well--at least not while coloring it--which was done a year after the drawing was made.
