Description
The assignment was to draw a steam engine going through the southwest desert....then a convertible comes into story, two guys in it. one guy jumps from the car onto the train.....and so it reminded me of back to the future...and i thought it would be fun to draw marty and doc....so here it is..Related content

Two words: FLIGHT MODE!
This looks like it takes place post BttF III so it's likely Doc would have gotten another DeLorean and hover converted it before taking any trips.
Doc was probably too busy concentrating on getting Marty on the train to engage it in advance. He could easily engage it in mid-air within a couple seconds. Cutting it way too close but still safe.
