I'm really surprised Twilight would be fine with her beloved mentor just getting thrown away like refuse.

Why is everyone just, okay with their leaders being thrown away? One doesn't send the president to fight every single army, the leaders are sorta there to do... y'know, leader things. In truth, it makes no sense to send the leaders into battle when they aren't even meant to do that. They're meant to lead, deal with politics, balance out things like the economy and the laws. By removing the two leaders, Sunset effectively plummeted a society into chaos, and at the absolute worst timing possible, right after many ponies were traumatized, lost their homes, and have to rebuild and recopurate. Now suddenly there's a new pony that absolutely no pony's heard of that's suddenly taking all the power from Celestia and Luna?
And why is Twilight and Cadence just.... okay, with this? They don't even say anything, they don't even react. Twilight adores Princess Celestia for cripes sake, and is Luna's friend! The most you can accuse Celestia for is not personally fighting every single battle that came forward, and they both already proved themselves in my eyes by willingly handing over their power for the sake of Equestria, even if it means stalling Tirek for just a little while.
It feels a little self righteous to see Sunset saying these things, and no pony commenting...

not really leaders don't usually fight because if they die then it would cause chaos through there realm and power grab and internal fighting would destroy their kingdom causing the enemy to just sit back and watch

FINALY, someone figured out how USELESS those 2 have been.Β Sunset has a point. Every time a disaster comes along, Celestia sends someone else to do the dirty work( the Nightmare Moon Problm was 100% her fault.Β If she had been paying atention to luna's fellings, it might never have happend.)

Useless? They founded Equestria, for crying out loud.
Not to mention the Sun and Moon rising and setting.
Or Luna patrolling the dreams of Equestrians.
"the Nightmare Moon Problm was 100% her fault."
How do you know? The show doesn't show very accurately what happened. For all what we know, Celestia might have been on a diplomatic visit to another State.

Okay maybe I splurged a bit much, at least on Luna(I give her more credit than Celestia for doing something besides paperwork all day.)Β For Nightmare Moon(and this is just my opinion), if Celestia had stopped being the princess and started being the older sister Luna needed, it might not have happend.Β As for Celestia, she has a long list of horrible desions shes made(with no good excuses for any of them): Not listining to Twilight at the wedding rehersal(if not as her teacher then as a princess she should have at least listend),Β then not trusting Twilight enoughΒ to go after Tyrek( then telling her to hide like a coward once Discord switched sides.)Β If she had seen how Twilight was kicking his sorry flank left, right and center, and using their magic like she had always had it, she should have known she's not fit to rule(again just my opinion.)

"if Celestia had stopped being the princess and started being the older sister Luna needed, it might not have happend."
Of course, of course. But as much as Luna needed Celestia to be the older sister she needed, Equestria needs at least one princess, day in, day out. It's not like Tia could have checked out of her duties whenever she wanted.
But then, Just stopping forΒ few hours, or even a few days, seems manageable. For a MLP ruler, that is.
"As for Celestia, she has a long list of horrible desions shes made(with no good excuses for any of them)"
Well, that happens when you have to stay in power for this long.
I mean, at least two millenias of rule? She was bound to make mistakes, real bad ones, here and there, despite her experience.
I think Tia even said it herself in the show: She's an immortal goddess, insanely and absurdly powerful, yet she's not perfect.
"I give her more credit than Celestia for doing something besides paperwork all day."
Princess/Queen/etc.'s work isn't always very glamorous and attractive.
Some dull and unpleasant tasks have to be completed by the rulers themselves, I guess.
Now, as to what Luna did ... From what I've watched (Until "Trade ya!"), Luna hasn't done much either.
But then again, it is just from what we saw. Who knows what kind of duties both Princesses assume and what kind of tasks they complete during the time we don't see them?
"Not listining to Twilight at the wedding rehersal(if not as her teacher then as a princess she should have at least listend)"
At Mi Amore Cadenza's and Shining Armor's wedding, Luna was nowhere to be seen either. Though, she could have been away doing her part of whatever ruling Equestria requires.
P.S.:
"(again just my opinion.)"
Don't fret. I'm pretty sure you're not judgemental.
But, as a matter of fact, I am - hopefully just sometimes - quite harsh and judgemental too, here, on DA.
So well, bottom line is, nothing to worry about.

I believe it was in Yahzees review of Bioshock Infinite that he said "The truly great villain is one who talks sense." And in a way I feel that's true in that Celestia and Luna have both taken a back see to the star of the series, Twilight. The one time we see Celestia fight (aside from the 'flashback' battle against Nightmare Moon) she was defeated in moments by Chrysalis, who to her credit seemed genuinely surprised she beat Celestia.
Throwing the comic Canon into things Celestia has told Spike on one occasion that she could have done a lot more, but in her role as a teacher she feels she has to step aside a lot of the time and let her students (Twilight) attempt to handle the situation in order to learn. And I would agree that it's an effective teaching method, but if such is the case and the cost of failure is so great we need to see she has a backup plan in case Twilight fails. If Twilight had stuck to what Celestia implied in her quest for the Crystal Heart and tried to do it all herself rather than trust Spike to get the Heart to Cadance then she would have failed and the Crystal Empire would have been consumed by Sombra. Trust is one thing, Blind Faith is another. Even if you retroactively consider the 'prophetic dreams' she might have as seen in the end of season 4 special to believe such futures are set in stone is to deny all semblance of free will and therefore undermine Celestias whole 'teaching method' by knowing Twilight will succeed every time.
So if you ask me Sunset is at least in part justified with what she's doing here. And therefore even if she is a villain she's an identifiable one and one that finds that unique gray area where the reader is not sure whether to dislike her or agree with her.

However, one thing I would hope to see in the future is how Twilight and the elements came to fail. Ill reread it again to see if I missed something, but otherwise, this is great. Great job as usual!
Though I feel like there would have been more reaction from the characters at Sunset Shimmer's announcement--especially from Twilight. But hey, I trust your story telling ability, and I know what ever you do, it will be great!

As for the comic, interesting development. Looking forward to it continuing

She isn't better than Tirek. Stealing what isn't hers. And Celestia never had pink mane as we could see in the show many times.
1000 years of peace doesn't mean anything for Sunset? It looks like this Sunset is warmonger.
And we mustn't forget Celestia brought up Cadance and Twilight. She has done much more for Equestria than Sunset will ever do.
And Sunset doesn't have capacity to hold magic of one alicorn so i doubt she would be able to hold magic of two.
And without their magic Celestia and Luna were constantly tired because magic is lifeforce of all ponies. Here they look too fresh.
