Mayer looks good as a pro. 12-0 with 5 KO's. Was this her fight with the undefeated Canadian? Who has not been seen since?

Yes, it is. Sheena Kaine had five or six bouts and her fight with Mikaela Mayer was the last. I don't remember if she was undefeated up to this point. She probably was because Mikaela was her first big challenge. I remember when this fight happened and she just dropped off the earth. I don't know if it was because this loss or what. Losing to Mayer is nothing to be ashamed of. Mayer is one of the best boxers of this generation.

I looked around some. She's from Edmonton Alberta where there have been a string of women boxers try to follow in the footsteps of Jelena Mrdjenovich but with nothing like her success. It's the Northern oil patch a tough place to live because of the climate, deep freeze for about six months of the year and some distance from the mountains so it does not get the warming chinook winds that come out to Calgary. Big into sports with pro hockey and football teams and has had a women's boxing community for a while. It's got a rough edge image you gotta be some kind of masochist to want to live there and most canadians live close to the US border not that far North. Most of the women boxers they have produced from there are rough edged like the town and more Toughwoman style than well trained Olympians like Mayer. There's a video of Kaine training with her teenage daughter

She's a single mom who got into boxing to get off drugs and booze. Probably realized how big a gap there was between her and experienced amateurs like Mayer
after she got thumped like this. It will be interesting to see if her daughter stays in the sport. Gotta give her lotsa points for turning her life around but this is reality
smacking her in the face.

Yeah, there was quite an age gap. It was probably reality check. Sheena came in too late, but at least she got off drugs. I never knew about her daughter. It would be cool if she stuck with it.
Canada is probably my favorite country as far as boxers because so many of the fighters I like are Canadian like Mrdjenovich that you mentioned. And she still fights! My favorite active boxer is Daniela Bermudez, but my all-time is probably Jeannine Garside. A lot of good boxers come from Canada so I'm also excited by newcomers. At the moment I'm interested in a lot of new people coming out of the UK and Australia. By the way, thanks for the comment, Karen! You're the first person I started watching on DA. I think. 😂 If not, you're one of the first.

Thanks! Canucks are so nice and polite until you get in a boxing ring with them ....
"G9" Garside is one of my all time faves too. Not many grrrlz would keep boxing and win a
world title after busting their ACL the way she did but they let her wear a brace and she never
missed a beat.

Yeah, I loved how she always wore a leg brace. Never stopped her. And she's a southpaw that's hard to deal with.

For some reason women boxers are more southpaw than the general population. G9 was way more aggressive than most of her opponents could handle, and that's mental. I think she believed she could take on the whole world and in the end she did, she whupped Menzer who was supposed to be the best at that time. Her coach once said she'd have knocked her grandmother out if she had to, her attitude was so special and what it takes to make a real exciting fight every time.

She wrecked Menzer in Germany haha. I love she was shouting at the end of the fight how she won and this was a dream come true. G9 is my spirit animal. 😁

That was the best part. It was too bad Mikaela didn't put her away.
