Description Ah finally I have something to post again!
This is something I finished on monday in school, I guess you could call it some sort of homage to the old school Medal of Honor games, WW2 commando films from the 60's and 70's and the Commando: For Action and Adventure comic series.

So what we have here is basicly an allied operator in disguise (his cover has obviously been blown), who's making a run for it after infiltrating some kind of facility, gathering some intelligence and doing some sabotaging. All in a day's work.

And yes, eventough the Germans are firing at him about 50 yards away from him, there's some unexplainable force that keeps them from hitting him, it's most likely the same force that has kept Indiana Jones and James Bond alive for all these years, and possibly Luke Skywalker, I'm not sure.

So yeah, I didn't really feel like making something that was down to earth and 100% historically accurate here, I just wanted to depict plain badassery!

It's good, but the figure does look a little flat here. There's something about it that doesn't convey depth.

It's the perspective that's off.

Very well drawn, I admire such talent you've expressed into this!! Absolutely wonderful texture along with fine toning, the image clear to see with well-shaded outlines. The creativity is great as intended, and I am impressed with this!! Well done, 10/10 of course!!

The way the art itself flows with such a formality that causes passion to overflow through my body when I see this...it's breath taking...Well done indeed and this was without a doubt considered as "Art". Not to mention overall it's such a wonderful inspiration this drawing gives me! So detailed along with a great moral sense of value, delightful scenery added with details beyond mere words! I truly value this a lot, very well expressed and high quality into the characters themselves. Even an interesting touch of some vivid coloring.

This pic oddly reminds me of a German movie ''The Bridge'' (Die BrΓΌcke), which was about a group of newly recruited german boys who had to defend a ''vital'' bridge from the allied forces in the very last weeks of the war...

But the look on this soldiers face pretty much points out that he's no 17-year old conscript !

Hmm I have yet to see that film, It looks interesting.
The inspiration for this piece came partially from a film from the 70's where a pair of British operatives demolish a huge dam somewhere in the eastern front, I can't recall the movie's name though.

That is one giant chunk of badassery there.

I like the way you did the soft light around the moon, like the smoke from the explosion is creating a halo around it. And the detail you put into the face is really great, right down to the worry lines (which are being given a workout right now! Look at all that smoke! You better run, kid)

My pleasure! Very truly so! I love action pictures - it is hard to draw so that it looks like it's moving. You can do that!

Well in the past months I've learned that the key to an action packed piece is actually more simple than one would think: a tilted angle, a dramatic diagonal horizon. I really recommend that you give it a try because it seriously does wonders!

Oh. That sounds interesting. At the moment I am trying to improve my overall skills with still poses but there will be a time when I do some more action packed pictures - I will remember your advice then and put it to use and I will ask you for your criticism then!

Thank you for sharing your wisdom - any help is welcome.

I am quite fond of the visual style of American comics, with the high contrast and everything, so I guess it's evident in my work.
Thanks!

Something is wrong with his left shoulder but all in all the work is interesting. I like shades and the perspective perspective of the bridge.

BenjaminForsell In reply to posts-1 [2010-05-07 19:05:19 +0000 UTC]

Thak you!
And I don't really know about his left shoulder, my teacher actually told me to elevate it above the other because of the way he is holding the weapon, it looksed a lot more unnatural before I changed it.
I think the problem may lie in his arm, it was very tricky to draw because of the perspective.

posts-1 In reply to BenjaminForsell [2010-05-07 19:17:06 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! Actually, no. It is good that it is elevated but it is too long and ends too sharply. The shoulder in real life should be hidden by breast a bit so the shoulder part can even look shorter than the other one. Then everything should be proportional.

Ah yes...The easily effected by a light breeze bullets, cheap, but pretty useless when trying to shoot a running enemy.

I like the tilted angle. That works well, kinda makes me think someone is running with him and looking back at him. I assume that long funnel shape is smoke? It's a little hard to tell in B&W, but that's not your fault. Finally, what kind of gun is that? It's really good.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BenjaminForsell In reply to HanksBeanieHat [2010-05-07 17:11:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot buddy!
And yes, I've recently realised how easy it actually is to create an illusion of movement in a still image, tilting is the key, nuff said.
And the big shape in the BG is indeed smoke, and the gun the agent is carrying is a German MP 40 submachine gun, also referred to as the "Schmeisser" by the Americans during the war.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HanksBeanieHat In reply to BenjaminForsell [2010-05-07 17:18:26 +0000 UTC]

Ah. I thought that gun looked familiar, I'm not good with guns, except the ones in Resident evil 4, I can identify them all, no probs. but any other mention of guns, all I know is, the bigger they are, the wider the hole will be.
