Description Ok we are finally starting to get into the real story, which means you’ll be seeing some characters from the anime show up, even if I don’t address them directly. The first part of the story is pre-shippuden and will be until the end of part 1, which I will make known when it happens. Brace yourself because it will be a little while till I get around to the happier side of the story, but it is well worth the wait. Please enjoy and as always critique is very appreciated.

This was bad, very, Very bad. It was late, he was tired and the last thing he wanted to do
was run for his life. The person running was a child, maybe 12 or 13. His hair was short and
white while his eyes were a shining blue. He was kind of cute, but he didn’t think of himself like that at all. He was skinny, but you could tell that it didn’t suit him well, like he was meant to have a larger frame but just didn’t eat enough to fill it. His skin was white and pale, but not off-putting because it somehow looked natural on him.

He wore ragged clothes that should have been thrown away a very long time ago. His pants were too tight, his shirt was to loose and he wore no shoes. He had a very worried expression on his face revealing that fact that his upper K-9s were abnormally large for a person.

The leaf ninja were after him and all he could do was run as fast as he could and pray that there were no traps blocking his path. This was useless, speed was never really his specialty so if this was dragged on for too long they would catch him for sure. He had to put some distance between him and them fast and he could think of only one way to do it. He made some quick hand signs

“Ice style: Ice Wall!” Suddenly a giant wall of ice appeared behind him, about 30 feet tall and went on for at least a few miles. Normally it wouldn’t take much chakra to make a wall, but these leaf ninja were good so he had to put in few extra surprises for it, plus he had to make it long enough so they couldn’t get to him in time if they tried to go around.

He was weakened now, more so than he was before if that was possible. After three more hours of running, stopping, coughing, throwing up, and repeat he decided he had made enough ground and exhaustion took over as he collapsed into a nearby bush.

The next morning he felt a strange mix of feelings. He felt better that he had lost the ninja and finally got some sleep but worse as he had now gone almost a whole day without eating
anything, plus all the exercise he had gotten from running only made his appetite even worse.

He needed to find some food and fast or else he might be too weak to walk and find any. After washing his face in a nearby stream he followed it in hopes of it leading to civilization. He was in luck as the stream came to an edge creating a small waterfall that fed into a larger river.

His eyes followed the river until it suddenly ended as was replaced by a small village. His eyes lit up to glorious sight that was before him. Normally he would use some sort of jutsu to make getting their easier and faster but he had no chakra left to use so he had to settle with walking.

Finally after about 20 minutes of walking he made it to the village. It was a small fishing village which didn’t surprise him much considering he was almost on the edge of the peninsula that connected the land of fire and the land of water.

He still couldn’t believe how determined that blond one was in chasing him down, though he couldn’t blame them because he deserved every ounce of their hate. He had done terrible things that he could never expect forgiveness for.

His self-loathing was interrupted momentarily by the intoxicating smell of cooked fish. When he was a boy he had never had fish because any lake that had every even been near his village had long since been frozen over, but still. It was almost like a deeper, more feral part of his mind was the one craving the seafood.

That had confused him for a while, but he assumed he knew what the reason was, but now wasn’t the time. He needed food in his stomach and he needed it fast.

Of course he had no money so he immediately made his way behind some random restaurant and dove into the dumpster, tossing aside pieces of wood, broken plates, piles of used chopsticks, and other things but found nothing edible.

Disappointed he exited the dumpster only to see an old man with a scowl on his face bending over to look him in the eye, making it all the more freighting.

“AHHH!” screamed the child as he fell down on the ground. “What do you think you’re doing rummaging through my trash, makin’ a mess!?” yelled the old man clearly irritated at the
mess he was making looking for food. He was a large man and tan as well, he had very sort hair salt and pepper hair and wore a white hat on top his head. His clothes were of that of a chef, white, blue and green in color with an image of a marlin jumping from the water indicating he was a seafood cook.

His eyes were brown and almost covered by his forehead wrinkles, but that was more a result of him scowling at him.

“Well, sir, I was… umm…” stuttered the boy. “WHAT!” screamed the old man clearly losing patience “I was looking for food!” the boy shouted, but immediately regretted it as he was now even more scared that he had yelled at the man.

The man looked confused for a second “What do you mean looking for food? What kind of scam is this, where are your parents?” He said in slightly less angered tone.

The boy just looked at the ground sadly and waited a moment before answering “I don’t have any…” The man was even more confused now “Wh-What do you… well what happened to 'em?”

The boy just kept staring at the ground “They’re dead.”

The two stood there for a long time, the man speechless while the boy just wondered when he would get kicked out or get hit by him or both, as this was a regular occurrence. But neither thing happened as the old man’s expression softened more than anyone’s had looked at him in a long time.

“H-Hey listen kid, why don’t you come and I’ll get some something to eat, huh, come on, it’s on the house.” He was so confused he didn’t move.

Had he heard right, did this man want to give him food, for free? He was used to working for food or getting the occasional old bun from a bakery but getting food from a restaurant… for free!? It sounded too good to be true.

“Come on, it’s gettin’ cold out and you clearly need to eat somethin'. Your skin and bone!” The man dragged the boy inside the warm and dimly lit shop, the smell of fresh and cooked fish wafting through the air.

“By the way kid, what’s your name?” He was still shocked. Now he wanted to know his name? No one had ever showed even the slightest interest in him, but now…

“Well, spit it out kid!”

“Oh! Umm… it’s, well… it’s Patrick.” he said.

“Patrick huh, weird name, not from around here are ya?” said the old man in more relaxed tone as he sat the boy down at a booth facing the kitchen.

“So… umm… what is your name?” asked Patrick quietly. “Well finally talkin are ya, well my name is Shefushi, but most people call me Chef.”

“O-Ok…” Patrick was completely confused by everything that was happening, but he was happy he was inside. Shefushi asked him some more questions like where he was from and why he was here. He tried not to give too much detail so just told him that he was from the North and that was traveling.

“Well, that’s all well and good. Here’s your food, eat up!” said the man with a warm smile on his face. It looked and smelled fantastic. It was some of grilled fish with a small side of rice. The chopsticks were put off to the side in a cup. Patrick grabbed a pair and tasted to food.

His face immediately lit up in a giant smile as he ate the best food he had ever had in his whole life. H scarfed down the fish in no time which surprised the man. “Well, I’ll give you seconds, but only that got it?”

“Yes sir, thank you!” said Patrick gratefully. After a second helping and even a sweet bun for dessert, he was finished. The man asked Patrick if he needed a place to stay, but he had to refuse.

Not because he wanted to, but because it was safer for everyone if he didn’t get to comfy or else… well it would be bad. So he set up camp in an old dried out drainage pipe facing the river. That was the first time he had fallen asleep happy in a long, long time,

The next morning he woke up with the same usual distain. The sun was shining right in his face giving any chance of extra sleep impossible. He hated mornings and would much rather just sleep till mid-day and stay up late, but usually he got little sleep so he took it when he could get it.

After waking up he exited the pipe and walked around thinking about what his next move would be. Going East to the land of fire was not an option and most likely they had sent word to the Hidden Mist to be on the lookout so either was a bad option, however he was stuck between a rock and a hard place as he remembered that there was no other land to go to, just those two and the sea.

But between the two he chose to go west to the Land of Water. The Land of Fire knew to be on the lookout and probably had ninja hounds with his sent tracking him. His only option was to see if he could find refuge on one of the many islands.

He even daydreamed about an island where it was just him, with lots of fruit trees and huge schools of tuna so he would never go hungry again and he would never hurt anyone else ever again.

He was daydreaming longer then he thought as he soon found out himself tired from all the walking he was doing. He decided to check out some of the local stores to see if he could find any job openings, he needed new clothes badly, but after spending most of the day asking from store to store he could not find a single job, and he doubted that the man would give him anymore fish.

‘It was just a onetime thing, he was probably just drunk or something.’ thought Patrick, but he actually started to think the man gave him food genuinely for the sake of being kind.

He was tired from all the walking and sat down with his back against the building facing the flow of people walking this way and that, store to store, the constant flow of people almost hypnotizing.

Then he wondered if his chakra had been fully restored to normal now that he had a good meal and some sleep.

He tested this out by making some hand signs and clasping his hands together. Then he separated them and between his hands was a small ice sculpture. It was in the shape of a fish, the same kind he had at the Shefushi’s restaurant. He was considering going back when he felt something strange, like someone was watching him.

He looked up from his creation and saw there was someone watching him. It was a very pretty woman that looked to be in her mid-20s. She had very long brown hair that also had a top knot on the top, but her hair covered half her face. She wore a wonderful blue dress the covered most of her body except for her arms.

Her shoes were light purple sandals that went up her legs into her dress. She had a look of curiosity on her face as she looked from Patrick to his creation showing him her eyes which were as green as the sea.

“GAHHH!” shouted Patrick as he screamed and fumbled with his creation until it fell onto to the ground and shattered. “Oh I’m sorry for scarring you!” but Patrick wasted no time in running away, embarrassed of how stupid he looked/sounded and afraid that now that she had seen his jutsu, she would know who he was and turn him in.

He kept running and turned a corner and ducked into an alley. He was breathing heavily from the shock and the unexpected sprint. “I *huh* think *huh* I *huh* lost her.” Patrick thought out loud

“Oh really?” Patrick turned around slowly to see the same woman behind him with a smile on her face.

“GAHHHHHHHHH!!!” Patrick was so scared by her that he passed out in the alley like a little girl.

He woke up a little while later in an empty room. He had no idea where he was or even how he got here. The last thing he remembered was… HE PASSED OUT IN AN ALLEY WITH SOME STANGE WOMAN!

He was freaking out now, checking to see if he still had all of his limbs and fingers. But his freak out was silenced when he heard voices coming from a different room. He slowly walked to the door trying not to let the floor boards creak under him while his silently slid the door open.

That’s when he realized someone had taken off his ill-fitting clothes and had put him in very clean white robe. He was about to freak out again except he felt had on the same underwear so the creepiness dropped somewhat, but not enough.

He was worried now and wondered what they were going to do with him. He walked to the end the hallway and saw three people standing there; one was the same woman who he passed out in front of. He listened in on their conversation.

“Well are you sure what of what you saw him do, Lady Mizukage?” asked a boy who looked a little bit like him, but scrawnier, had glasses, and a giant something taped up attached to his back, maybe a weapon. Plus he had tiny sharp teeth like a piranha; Patrick’s were sharp, but larger. He was wearing a blue sweater with brown and white camouflage pants.

But what stopped him in his tracks were the words ‘Lady Mizukage.’ THIS LADY WAS THE FREAKING MIZUKAGE!?!

Ok, he was panicking now, panicking is bad. What he needed was an escape plan. Did they know who he was? But if so, then why not hold him down; it would be a lot easier to restrain him instead of just putting him in an unlocked room?

“Yes, I am sure of what I saw, I sensed his unusual chakra and came to investigate, but when I saw him, he was performing and ice style jutsu…”

He was sunk, they knew who he was. “I seriously doubt it, with all due respect Lady Mizukage.” said some weird looking mid aged guy with an eye patch wearing green robes.

He had an intimidating air about him but at least he was on his ‘side’. “Perhaps it was a mirage?” said the same strange guy, but for some reason when he said the word ‘mirage’, the Mizukage got a furious look in her eyes.

Unbenounced to her cycloptic teamate, her one-track mind started running a mile a minute again

'Mirage... Mir-age... Marriage!

“No, that couldn’t be, it’s not hot enough for a mirage.”

'NOT HOT ENOUGH TO BE MARRIED!!'

This only put gasoline on the fire as the Mizukage looked ready to tear this guy to shreds until the scrawny kid jumped in.

“Well, if Lady Mizukage says she saw it, then I believe her.” This calmed the Mizukage down a little as she focused on the kid.

“Oh come now Chōjūrō, you can’t agree with everything everyone says all the time, have some backbone!” stated the man proudly.

“But Ao-” but the kid was cut off.

“No buts! Now you listen, when I was your age we-” but he too was cut off as the Mizukage leaned in close and whispered something in his ear that scared the pants off of him.

“WHAT DID I SAY?!” said the frightened Ao. With that however the Mizukage had calmed down

“Now we need to ask him some questions before we make any decisions. You can come out now.”

“AHHH!” Patrick said as he fell down onto the floor. He looked up to see the 3 mist ninja staring at him. “Please don’t hurt me!” Patrick yelled scared out his mind. “I didn’t do it!” he wasn’t just yelling nonsense, he was accused of crimes, but he wasn’t the one doing them. As a result, a lot of villages had put a price on his head.

“Hey, calm down, were not going to hurt you.” said the Mizukage in a calm, soothing voice.

“Huh?” Patrick said while still on the ground covering his face with his arms.

“Let’s start with introductions. My name is Mei, this is Chōjūrō and Ao. We just want to talk.” Ao didn’t look thrilled by the idea, but accepted it. “What is your name?” asked she asked.

“Umm… my name is Patrick.” He was amazed at the amount of attention he was getting in the land of water. He had always heard bad things about it but it was place with a lot of nice people.

“Hmmm… strange name, did you make it up!” Ao shouted at Patrick who only dropped to the floor again in fear, his fear of the ninja not lessening very much.

“AO! BE NICE!” she shouted and hit him over the head. “Sorry about him, he can be a handful, anyway why don’t we all go sit down.” said the Mizukage.

“Ok…” said Patrick, feeling safest around her, and not seeing escape as an option, he went with her.

YEAH! FINALLY TO THE MAIN STORY! ! So ya, this turned out pretty good if I do say so myself, a little long, but still good. No, Patrick does not have a crush on the Mizukage, he just thinks she looks pretty, she is way too old for him anyway… DON’T TELL HER I SAID THAT! Ok anyway as always critique is very much appreciated and I hope you enjoyed it.

I liked it, it was a good start! I'm interested to see what unfolds for Patrick now that he's around the Mizukage and I'll be back to finish the other chapters. One thing though, my friend. Make sure you create more paragraphs in the story. Other than that, nice job so far! *Thumbs up*
