Description
Hey guys, sorry this took so long but I’ve been pretty beat with school work an’ stuff but I hope that the action level rising will make up for that! Thanks for reading and please enjoy!!The next morning, Patrick groggily woke up. But instead of dreading the morning, he was looking forward to it. With however little time he had to spend in the Leaf Village he wanted to enjoy it. He ate breakfast at the hospital; a piece of toast, some scrambled eggs, and bacon with orange juice. It tasted pretty good, but not as good as the feast he had gotten to take part in the other day. After getting dressed in a light blue shirt with a diagonal black stripe running down the center from his right shoulder to his left hip and a pair a beige cargo shorts that went past his knees that he picked out from a pile of donated clothes, he left the hospital.
As he walked alone for the first time unescorted through the streets, he tried to formulate an escape plan to sneak out of the Leaf Village. However, he kept getting sidetracked by all of the fun things to do like play at one of the parks or down by the river, meet some of the other academy kids, and read some books at the library to see if they had any info on the Ice Village. They didn’t have any which was both a good and a bad thing. Good because they might not have heard of it and would not immediately think of it and bad because they might have said something important written about it.
After getting some dango for a snack Patrick made his way back to the hospital for his bag. He planned on just casually walking out of the doors of the village then running like hell for however long it took. A bit simplistic but he could think of no better strategy, they did leave the doors wide open all the time so why not?
Patrick was surprised at how much time he had spent just bumming around the village as it was already the afternoon. He was almost to the hospital to pick up his stuff when he was stopped by Kakashi walking toward him waving, “Patrick, I was worried about you! Where have you been?” this was of course a lie as he and a few other ANBU watched every move he made that day, but he wanted to test the Hokage’s theory that he was a terrible liar or at least told the truth most of the time.
“I was just walking around, doin’ stuff…” Kakashi didn’t look satisfied with that answer “Like what?”
Patrick didn't have much to hide, but he still felt nervous around him and his natural instinct told him to give vague answers, however since he did nothing wrong he decided to just tell him that he walked around, played by the river, and went to the library and was about to take a nap in his hospital room.
It was a normal day for some kids, especially vacationing ones and because the ANBU confirmed what he did and that he was heading back in the direction of the hospital to Kakashi through a radio transition in this ear, he smiled. “Ok then, listen the Hokage wants me to bring you to her office for one last checkup ok.”
Patrick was a thought it over quickly and decided that it probably wouldn’t hurt to have one more checkup before he left. He hadn’t even seen the Hokage his entire stay except for when he first got to the Leaf and figured if she was half the medic he heard she was maybe she could offer some sort of special treatment for his…‘condition’. Willing the two jerk-offs were still hibernating he might be able to get some helpful information about how to suppress them. He had given up on trying to cure himself completely of the demons long ago after several failed and painful attempts, but it seemed like the more he fought them the more powerful they became. Maybe she would know what to do.
After following Kakashi back to the Hokage Tower he got a little bit nervous. Having ninja training he knew when something didn’t quite feel right. The entire district around the Hokage tower was completely empty, not a single soul for a few square miles as far he could sense. The exact opposite as it was only a few hours ago. Kakashi only smiled and said it was only a scheduled evacuation drill, but he still felt uneasy.
After a very quiet walk up to the building and up the stairs up to the Hokage’s office Kakashi asked him to wait outside for a minute for the Hokage to prepare for the examination. While he was waiting on whatever Kakashi was checking on, Patrick grew more nervous.
‘Why would he make me wait outside if they were expecting me? Come to think of it why was the checkup happening in her office and not in the hospital, plus the entire area being evacuated? This doesn’t feel right, maybe I should make a break for it…’ while he was mentally deciding, Kakashi poked his head though the door.
“Patrick, the doctor will see you now!” he said as he did the masked smile thing that usually cheered him up, but this time made him a little bit frightened. Patrick got up from his chair and carefully walked around Kakashi to enter the Hokage’s office. That’s when everything went straight to hell.
The second Patrick entered the room the door was slammed shut behind him. He spun around to see what happened only to see Kakashi blocking the door with his arms crossed. Turning back around to the inside of the room, it only got worse. Besides the Hokage and her assistant he met in the hospital holding her pet pig, there were at least 10, maybe 11 other kids there his age as well as some guy who looked exactly like Lee if he aged 20 or so years, a woman who was wearing a dress that looked like it was made of bandages with a thorn-like pattern running across them with strange red eyes, and next to her was the same women who smelled like snakes he saw at the dango shop with long spiky purple hair and a revealing mesh bodysuit and a long brown overcoat.
The fanged boy couldn’t help but almost piss himself as none of them exactly looked like they wanted to through him a surprise party, some already drawing weapons or preparing scrolls. Patrick started to shake in fear with his mouth agape as most of them just looked at him with blank or irritated faces. He hated being the center of attention, mostly because that usually meant someone wanted to kill him and this time seemed no different. Then the Hokage spoke.
“Patrick, do you know why you are here?” she asked in a calm, mediated voice resting her head behind her hands with her eyes closed.
“…N-No..” He had to calm down, too much excitement could cause the transformation, but being a room filled with hostile ninja didn’t really help. The expressions didn’t change on any of the ninja except Tsunade as she opened her eyes and he felt like she could see strait into his soul and make him tell her even his darkest secrets, like she knew what he was thinking before he even though it and was only humoring him by asking questions. “Have you ever visited the Land of Water?” That sentence hit Patrick like a bombshell and took him a few seconds to shake off the shock. ‘No… how could they… they know… they all know…”
He couldn’t think strait, the room was spinning, his heart was racing, and he could feel himself shaking on the verge of collapse. This wasn’t good, they didn’t care about him they just wanted his demon’s power, or to kill him, or both. None of these would be the first time.
“Please answer the question, Patrick.” ‘O-Ok, lying won’t work… shit, I can’t even speak! WHAT DO I DO!!!’ as Patrick tried his best to think of a way out everyone read his facial expressions and body language like an open book. Even if he were to say something, everyone knew that Tsunade struck a nerve and she intended to keep going until she saw results.
“I take your silence as you did visit that country recently. I asked because yesterday I received a scroll about a missing child that fits your exact descriptions. There were also reports from the villages between the Leaf and Mist of a demon running rampant through the streets. They said it looked like a small, white-haired child.” Patrick was both devastated and impressed they could find out at least part of his secret, but mostly devastated.
“Patrick, we have reason to suspect that you are affiliated with the demon.”
‘N-NO NO! NONONONO!! NOT HERE!! FOR THE LOVE GOD PLEASE NOT HE-’ but his inner plea went unheard as his entire body began to contort in pain, the familiar sensation of acid running through his veins spread throughout his entire body as he began to change, and he screamed. “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! NO!! PLEASE! STOP!!! AHHHHHHHHGH!!!”
At first no one knew how to respond, but Tsunade started to realize what was happening, “Neji! Hinata! Check his chakra!!” The two genin obeyed immediately “Hai!” The Hyūgas then activated their signature kekkei genkai, the Byakugan. A special type of ocular jutsu that allows you so see the opponent’s chakra network and thus having a clear advantage over them. Once they both activated it, to say they were shocked was an understatement if there ever was one. Hinata gasped while Neji just took a step back wide eyed (although it was hard to tell with his jutsu still on). Tsunade hated being in the dark. “Well?!”
Neji was the first to respond while Hinata kept an eye on the change in chakra of the boy writhing in pain on the floor. “Lady Hokage, he isn’t faking is pain. I’m not quite sure how to describe it, but it appears a new chakra is taking over his current one.” Everyone in the room was shocked and looked to Neji in surprise while still keeping Patrick in there peripheral vision. “Is this true?!”
“Yes, but I can’t tell where the new chakra is coming from! It’s like his own body is producing it, but it is mostly focused on his brain.” Just as he finished his statement Patrick let loose a blood-curdling howl that had become much deeper in tone and more animalistic.
“Can we stop it?” Tsunade had now gotten out from behind her desk and stood in front of it while holding a small defensive stance. Suddenly, as the screams grew deeper and deeper, they also became quieter. The boy stopped rolling on the floor but instead was on his knees bend forward holding his hands on his head so that his chin was on the floor, breathing deeply. As he finished off his last scream of terror, it didn’t end the same as the last ones did. His voice had become much deeper and from the sounds of it… he was laughing!!!
“Hehe, hehehe, hehe-hahaha!!HAHHAHAHAHAAA!!!”
The snicker/laughter came from a sickening voice that sounded like it came from a raspy man that was still in his 30’s who smoked too much and belonged on the underbelly of society, the kind of voice you would expect a tattoo-covered gang member to have. To hear it come from boy who not 3 minutes ago spoke in a soft, quiet tone was more than disturbing, but what happened next was even more disturbing.
Patrick shot back up standing, his head cocked slightly sideways while his arms hung limp at his side. His teeth had all grown sharper and stood out more than they already did and his completion grew even paler. But the thing that caught the eye most was that his eyes had turned blood red with vertical slighted, pitch-black pupils. He looked like something strait out of a horror movie!
“Hello, please pardon the interruption but I couldn’t help but feel my host was in trouble. And quite a mess that brat’s gotten himself in this time, eh! Hahaha!” Everyone there could feel the killing intent flow from him like a waterfall. He wanted to kill everyone there, no doubt about it but it felt more like a mixture of hunting for food and killing for pleasure which creeped everyone out and made them get into a more solid defensive stance. The creepy smile didn’t help make it any less frightening.
‘Patrick’ remained undaunted and made an over exaggerated bow toward the group of ninja in front of him. “Please, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Hōkkami, the arctic wolf.” The only person who said anything was Tsunade who was still shaking off the last bits of shock. “O-Ok, Hōkkami, who or what are you and what do you want with this child.” He just grinned and narrowed his red eyes at the Hokage. “I am a demon that was forcibly sealed into this brat over 3 years ago. If you have something you wish to ask me without the child knowing know would be the time, I’ve got complete control over his mind and body right now. But before anything else…”
A then turned his head to look behind him at Kakashi before raising his hand at incredible speed, channeling chakra through it and, before even Kakashi could act, used some strange attack on him without hand signs. At first it looked as though Kakashi had vaporized because where he was standing was now covered in a cold mist, but once it dissipated it showed that he froze the masked ninja in a giant block of ice, with a surprised expression literally frozen on his face. “KAKASHI!!” “SENSEI!!”
Most of ninja were about to make a move until Patrick held up his hand again, only holding up his index finger and wagging it at them. “Ah, ah , ahh! I wouldn't move if I were you right know. I have complete control over this ice, make one move and I’ll shatter him without a second thought.”
And to prove his point, he squeezed his left clawed-hand in mid-air like he was juicing an invisible orange and a large crack appeared and ran through the ice, dangerously close to his neck. Most of the ninja there were either gritting their teeth in frustration or trying to come up with a plan. Kurenai was currently trying to trap him in an illusion with genjutsu. “Also you can stop attempting to use you pitiful genjutsu on me, it won’t work.”
He walked over to the frozen Kakashi and placed his left hand on the ice, grinning devilishly and scratching the surface with his clawed nails sound like he did it on a chalkboard. “Do you love this person? Does he mean a lot to you?” While no less pissed, they all looked more confused, this time Naruto answered. “Y-Yes, he means a lot to us, he’s our friend! Why does that matter?!” His grin just got bigger if that was possible, “Because I wanted to know just how miserable you all would be if I KILLED him right now!”
None of them knew quite how to react to that. “Yes, I can tell. You would be devastated beyond recovery, choking on the bile of your own twisted emotions, falling into a pit of darkness within your own minds slowly drowning in a sea of your own tattered psyches!” He started rubbing his fangs with his tongue and a low growl emitted from his throat, “It sounds wonderful! Maybe I will kill him…” A second crack going perpendicular to the first one appeared, this time cutting some skin over his jugular.
“Oh, but I have a better idea. You’re all ninja and misery doesn't come naturally to you. However my host is quite sensitive. He produces the most delicious misery! Hehehe… I think it would be more profitable to simply cause him MORE misery…”
With that the red and black slitted eyes began to morph back into ice blue ones with rounded pupil. The sadistic smile faded back into a normal mouth, his arms looked less limp and his completion brightened back to his original paled white. He looked like he just woke up because he started to rub his head and his eyes were squinted. “Uh, how did-” but before he could figure out what happened he was met with the steely gaze of, not to mention extremely pissed, looking of ninja.
Caught off guard, he backed up quickly and his back hit something big and cold. He glanced behind him while still keeping an eye on the ninja and saw a completely frozen Kakashi with two cracks almost slicing his head off!
‘No…d-did I…. no… no! NO! NO GOD DAMN IT, NO!!!!!!!!’ He spun back to face the other ninja who all either had weapons out or took a fighting stance. He started to shake like a leaf, eyes wide and heart rate rising, he raised his elbows up to his shoulders and put his hands on the block of ice. He couldn’t think of one single way out of this. Escape was impossible, if they caught him they would probably try to kill him.
Obviously reason wasn't going to work, so he had only one option. He ran like hell. Slipping past the chilled-out Leaf ninja, he slammed the door behind him and froze it but good, water vapor making the door look like it was steaming but in fact it was the opposite as the ice made some cracking sounds as it settled into place. He could hear them start to bust down the now frozen door so he wasted no time in sprinting down the hall towards the door.
He burst out into the sunny open courtyard and busted ass toward the city. Hopefully there they wouldn't use jutsu that was very destructive. He was about 15 feet past the door when he saw the other ninja were chasing him, at a much faster speed. ‘Damn, damn, DAMN!!’ He had no other choice. Escape was not an option, but not getting the shit kicked out of him was, so he quickly made the ram, dog, and ox hand signs. “Ice Style: Ice Dome Jutsu!!”
After calling out the name of the jutsu, right as Gai was about to catch up, “DYNAMIC!! ENT-UMMPH!!” he ran face-first into a solid 2-foot thick wall of ice that was harder than steel.
Stepping back to regain his composure, he saw that what he ran into was a dome of deep turquoise ice about 10 feet high and 15 feet in diameter. Following Gai was Lee, then Naruto and soon everyone was gathered in front of the ice dome.
Naruto, being the most impatient, was the first to attack. He made a single shadow clone to create a rasengan. After dispelling the clone he rushed up to the dome and shoved the swirling ball of chakra into it yelling, “RASENGAN!!” While it didn’t go all the way through, it defiantly left a crater about 4 or 5 inches deep and just as big in diameter. “Alright, I’ve just gotta keep, huh?!” Just as soon as Naruto finished the rasengan, the ice dome began to slowly repair itself, the ice filling in where the rasengan had hit until it looked like it had only a moment ago. “WHAT THE HELL!! *grrrrrr* DAMN YOU!!!” Naruto said as he jumped onto the side of the dome punching it repeatedly yelling, “UNFREEZE KAKASHI-SENSEI!!!”
The one to calm him down was Gai by yanking him off the dome and knocking the orange clad ninja on his butt. “Naruto, anger won’t help us here. If we want to save Kakashi, then we need to take him back alive.” Naruto closed his eyes and calmed down a bit. He was still pissed as hell but he was able to concentrate and focus his rage.
Realizing that the dome could repair itself but not attack back and was immobile, everyone lined up into a half circle between the tower and surrounding the ice dome, the one coordinating the attack was Gai.
“Ok, everyone prepare your strongest mid to long range attacks. If we all focus our power on one point then we should be able to break through and retrieve the child!” He was acting uncharacteristically calm and level headed. That was a sign he was taking what he was doing very seriously or he was extremely pissed off, in this case probably both.
Without warning Gai took off, landing an extremely powerful punch into the ice, causing an even bigger crater than when Naruto did a rasengan. “NOW!” Gai jumped into the air to avoid the combination attack which consisted of the various weapons released from Tenten’s scrolls and Shikamaru’s Shadow stitching jumping off the ground and stabbing into the dome.
Following that was Kiba doing a fang over fang with Akamaru drilling into the surprising tough frost barrier. Finally Neji and Hinata did a combo 64 palms attack that severely cracked the ice over the entire side facing them.
Everyone was sure that after those combination attacks the dome was powered snow, but to everyone’s shock the dome was still intact, beaten and cracked but that was already repairing itself. Some didn't participate because they used live animals or attacks that were too up close and they didn't want to get in the way of their friend’s attacks. Plus they all thought what they did would have been more than enough to break through, but obviously not.
Inside the dome was a different story. The inside of the dome was darker than it was outside with any light being turned light blue. This was one of Patrick’s favorite jutsus because it not only kept him safe on nights he was scared of enemies or wild animals, it was reminded him of his own home as it was just a dome of ice as well. Only the village was at least a thousand times if not ten-thousand times bigger, but it still usually felt nice to sleep and relax inside of one of his ice barriers.
But this time was much different. Instead of feeling nostalgic, he felt like he was losing the already loose grip he had on his own sanity. The demon host was currently laying in a fetal position at the far end of the dome with tears streaming sideways across his face, although he wasn’t crying. Rather he was just frowning, staring at the wall of ice and hearing the ninja pounding the dome with attacks.
“…they want to kill me… they want to kill me… they all want to kill me… what did I do… to make them hate me… they all hate me…”
Outside everyone was about to prepare a second wave of attacks before the dome could heal itself when a loud shout stopped them in their tracks. “That’s enough!”
Everyone either turned around completely or just turned their heads, but what they all saw was Lady Tsunade walking toward them with an unreadable but calm expression as she made her way past all of her subordinates and walked straight up to the ice dome. Putting a single hand on the turquoise dome shield and she wiped away a small amount of condensation and frost that had gathered on the outside.
What she saw was of little or no surprise to her, Patrick lying on his side. He would have looked like he was sleeping if he wasn't shaking and she guessed it wasn’t from the cold. She sighed sadly, almost like she was regretting something, and then cocked her hand back with her hand already turned into a fist.
Without any sort of warning or running start, she hit the ice dome with an insane amount of force from the chakra-infused punch. The area directly in front of her exploded like a bomb had just been set off.
Everyone present, if they weren't already, were effectively silenced and their jaws dropped like they suddenly gained a hundred pounds.
Once the dust, chunks of ice, snow stopped falling, everyone was somehow in even more shock. A giant hole 8 feet tall and just as wide across hole starting from the ground up had been blown into the barrier, chunks of ice still falling off around the opening! Holy crap was she strong!!
After cracking her knuckles lightly, Tsunade peered into the shattered dome and saw Patrick quivering wide-eyed on the opposite end of the dome. Almost all of the light was coming from the newly made opening so he couldn't initially see who was standing there, but once his eyes adjusted he saw the figure that could only be the Hokage slowly walking toward him and he looked like he had seen the devil himself.
‘...kill!...me!...their!...kill!...ME!!’
Not being able to move or form a complete thought he just backed up to the wall behind him so hard it looked and felt like he was trying to merge with it. His fear only increased as she continued to approach at a slow walk until she stopped right in front of him and knelt down on one knee to look him strait in the eye.
She just stared for a second. Not trying to intimidate him or even trying to ease his shattered mind but just starring. Patrick stared back, with his bright blue, tear filled eyes. Then she did something that no one, especially Patrick, expected.
She hugged him. She brought him into a tight but not uncomfortable embrace. His head resting on one of her shoulders with a confused expression on it. She smelled nice, like flowers. He also felt that she was warm, but it didn't hurt, rather it felt… nice, comforting, but above everything else he felt relief. Before he knew what he was doing he was hugging her back even more tightly crying heavily for the first time in a long time with someone’s shoulder to do it on.
What she felt was that the child was cold, like she had just pulled a corpse out a lake and from the lack of movement from his he might as well have been. She felt terrible knowing that no child should feel this cold and alone, sensing the tortured emotions bottled up inside of him.
“It’s ok, it’s ok…” she rubbed his back as he started to weep uncontrollably. He didn't care that people were watching him, he just needed to cry. He had cried hundreds of times before, after his village was destroyed. But he was always alone. He felt cold for the first time then, covered in blood and surrounded by bodies of friends and enemies alike after the battle where he first released Hyōko.
He cried then and many times after that, but it was always a silent steam of tears that ran down his face when he was curled up in a dark alley or smelly sewer alone, hugging his knees into his chest to make it feel like someone else was there, imagining anyone. A mother, a father, usually sensei but over the years he had forgotten what they looked like except for sensei for whom he had a picture of.
But most importantly he had forgotten that warmth can be a good feeling, but she reminded him it could feel just as good if not better than the cold. Bringing him back from the edge of losing his mind and remembering all of the horrible things he had dome to so many villages, including now this one, he just cried harder and started shouting while he was doing it hugging her harder.
“WAAAHAHAHAAAA!!!! I’M SOOORRRR-HE-Y!!! AAHHHAHAAAAAA!!”
She just rubbed his back some more as he held her tighter and spoke softly in his ear, “Shhh, shhh it’s ok. I’m here its ok…”
Not sure how to end this chapter that had so many mood swings but just glad I FINALLY got it finished. If it makes you feel any better it’s because I’m focusing on the future of the story and how much freaking better it’s gonna be!! Thanks for the support, comments are HUGELY appreciated as are critiques. THANKS FOR READING!!
P.S.- No it's not a shipping, just a hug. That stuff comes later...

Don't worry, staying busy from school is completely understandable. This chapter though is giving me some ideas about Patrick's character though... GOOD ONES. Nice job my man!
