Thanks for the kind words! Although a lot of art from this era makes me cringe, I do remember how fun it was to make and I can't bear to take it down! I'm glad people still enjoy it.
I did release a trailer and was working on the first episode when school and work ate up all the free time I was using to make it. Often I wonder where I'd be if I had carried it through to completion. A Youtube celebrity? Comic artist? Animator? Sued by Sega? Oh, the roads not traveled.

I still think your older work impressive given how primitive the design tools were back in the day.Β I read a description of yours stating that used Macromedia softwareΒ That made me nostalgic right there lolΒ Β But to put context to the name, I used to go by the name Sonmanic and then A Knothole Resident on FUS.Β I was certainly one of those cringey fanboys cause I was such a SatAM purist which resulted in a ton of backlash from the Sonic community.Β Most recently, I started to reminiscence about my forum posting days and started re-connecting with old friends/forum members.Β I dont know, it seems that Sonic Mania and the Sonic movie has rekindled my interest after all these years.Β Speaking of animation, I actually took a stab at myself from 2007-2011 which didnt exactly pan out well lol. Β Ever since then I kinda disconnected from fan communities in general to focus on my own thing.Β 8 years later, I find myself come full circle playing new Sonic games, reading the new comic (RIP Archie) and getting excited for the live action Sonic movie I keep reading about.Β Anyway, its great to know that you're still around! Oh yeah, I remember you! Glad you're doing well! I haven't had the time to dive into any fan communities like back in the day, but I have enjoyed Sonic Mania, both mechanically and philosophically. The victory of a small team of fans showing up a big studio by delivering a huge hit based on "outdated" gameplay was just *chef's kiss*!

Seriously.Β Never thought Id see the day where SEGA would be that lenient towards fans where theyd actually license fan made games.Β It just proves that the fans should be in charge of game development cause I honestly havent cared for a Sonic game in over a decade.Β In fact, I havent really kept current up to that point on Sonic since 2010.Β Sonic Mania and that recent Sonic movie announcement kinda rekindled my interest again.Β I started reading back issues of the Archie Comics I missed out on, which apparently were canceled as of 2017 sadly.Β However, when my social media feed was getting flooded with "Jim Carry will appear in Sonic Movie," I just had to drop everything and my young fanboyism came out to play again.Β Its just that long awaited dream coming to fruition is just kinda surreal to me.Β Speaking of which, what are you thoughts on the news that was released?

It's still fun to deep dive into the lore of the Sonic comic for the uninitiated, and I really like the team for the rebooted IDW comic.Β I have no expectations for the movie other than a glorious disaster -- something like the Mario Brothers movie we can all look back on in 10-20 years and ask, "Did that really happen?" If it's good? Great! Worst-case scenario is mediocrity and obscurity. My current stance on Sonic is anything that keeps the characters in the public consciousness is fine, even if I strongly disagree with the creative direction.

Im in the same camp.Β I have negative reservations due to the formulaic premises that are always executed with these live action/CGI kid franchises.Β I have such low expectations that I just want it to be entertaining even if its a trainwreck.Β Its depressing to say cause a Sonic movie is something Ive always wanted as a kid (even though I still defend how the story should focus more on SatAM).Β The more I read about it, the more I get frustrated on how detached it is from any of the Sonic lore.Β But, we'll just have to sit back and enjoy the social media shitshow till a meme fueled trailer is released.Β
I just recently started reading the IDW comics and it seems like its more focused on the game storylines.Β Nothing bad, but I feel that the some of writing so far is Ian's weakest.Β As if hes' being held back by some mandate.Β I mean, after the turmoil that Ken Penders stirred up, are the Freedom Fighters even allowed to appear in SEGA property anymore?Β Cause I remember even back in the mid 2000s there were news articles of Ken Penders suing Sega and all this BS.Β Then I find out that he won these cases in 2012 and now has ownership over certain characters.Β Β
But while I was catching up with Archie, I couldn't believe that lazy reboot since it seems like none these characters got closure and were just wiped from existence.Β I know I havent read the Archie comics since 2010, but its infuriating when you have characters who have been well developed for a quarter of a century and they have no dignified end to their arc.Β Speaking of reboot, those redesigns for the Freedom Fighters were unappealing and generic looking.Β I guess being thrown in a Genesis Wave reduced them to cookie-cutter templates that resemble the SegaSonic characters.Β They all look the same.Β Why does Bunnie look like Cream?Β Maybe killing the comic was a bittersweet decision afterall

I know this is an rather old post (15 years old at that) But I still will complete to say it.
SatAM Robotnik is nothing compared to the EGGMAN Eggman did in the first act of the first zone of Sonic 3 what Robotnik with all his resources never could burn the forst to the ground and so take any hiding spot for Sonic away. Even the worst of Robotnik can barley compete with Eggman him self given what he did to Little planet in CD or Green Hill Zone in Sonic Chaos and all of this with out a ridicules naive king to over through after he payed for his personal army.
Hell the forces Eggman seam to possess in Heroes seams to top even all of SatAm Robotnik ever had and he build all of them in less than a year.
And most importantly Robotnik lived because the Sonic let him life Sonic lives because Eggman gives him a change to beat him (its shown rather often that Eggman doesn't put Sonic in hopeless situations on purpose to make his victory all the sweeter).
So now that I have my rambling out of the way lets finish this by saying something nice.
You really manage to make Robotnik look scary and Snivly cool(I didn't even know that was possible)

Thank you for your input. I cared a lot more about this in 2003 than I do now, especially since all of SatAM continuity has effectively been wiped with the comic reboot. All are just pretenders to the Eggette Empire throne anyway. Nice to see you're keeping the passion alive though. Keep on truckin'

Eggman is Robotnik. Robotnik is Eggman. Eggman was designed to be a bit silly, but he still decimated the entire Little Planet and turned it into the Death Egg mk. 2. But there's absolutely zero reason to compare the character against himself.

bernie, i must say, you are a sick sick man. but yon art is beauty, and thine skill is impressive.
good deal, man. i'm tellin' ya, i don't know about the theme you've been reaching for lately, but i must say, it's very pretty. and, i've been playing sonic (rom) lately. i'm getting a little too into it. god bless the game, but i can't become like you and your fellow sonic monks. 'tis okay though, it does not decrease my appreciation of it, not in the slightest. i admire your skill in art to this very day.
although, i do have a few comments. take them seriously if you wish, but they are my honest oppinion: really only two points
i notice that your light sources in this pic are a bit ambiguous (i hate that word)... um, Sniv is kinda bright considering he's behind the doc. and the pen lines would be a little dimmer around the areas where the light is directly reflecting, like his knee pads and boots. other than that, the shading and lighting is SWEET
and, on another note, your perspective on his fat ass belly is a weeeee bit off, just a bit. it appears that perhaps his legs should be in a different position with the way he's sortof leaning. i dunno.
but, other than that the pic is absolutely awesome. i especially love the colors, they're pretty vivid. and it's very grim, and grim is good. plus, the drawings themselves are sweet. and, as usual, it's just damn cool. keep up the awesomeness, bernie, it's tradition on your part.
