Bandaged and worried monsters.
Erm ... Okay, this is a weird one to explain.

There's a forum I sometimes visit which is running an awareness campaign about “Self Harm” in the UK (Forum [link] DA community account [link] ). It also provides informal support for harmers and survivors of self harm. There have a sort of mascot graphic which is a little monster with horns which is used to warn other members that a message thread might be really disturbing, and may even set off the or “trigger” thoughts and feelings which may lead a self-harmer to hurt themselves. It's a very complicated subject.
In contrast to these alienating or sometimes horrific experiences, the idea of a monster which sneaks up on you, or a spiky but harmless embodiment of the issue, is a source of mirth. “Ra!! I'm here to ruin you day!” or “Or dear, here come the monstrous feelings...” Some members said they wanted to adopt the “Trigger Monster”- which inspired me to doodle some rather confused, wounded monsters.

Sometimes humour makes an issue so much less threatening – provided the issue isn't belittled I guess. Hey, they were loads of fun to draw.

I don't know why I find “freaked-out” characters so funny.
