Description
Devotion. To my grandfather, who died from injuries received in an on-the-job accident when I was six years old. Thirty-three years ago.
She's still married to him, in mind, body and spirit. She's still devoted to him.
We were talking about life experiences in general. She has many, from Prohibition to the Dust Bowl to my namesake's photograph in 1968 (when I was just a few months old).
We talked about remarriage. She said that it wouldn't be fair to any other man, since he would constantly be compared to the one.
Devotion.
To faith, to a partner, to a dream, to a desire, to a lifestyle.
I owe everything to her and her lessons.

It doesn't look like anyone's commented in quite some time but I can't just leave this picture without saying how incredible and evocative it is. Not even just the picture, the story behind it and touching values that I hope to stay true to if I ever live longer than the one I love.

There are many stories to this picture.
The ones that precede it, the ones that follow it.
Thank you for commenting on a dear photo that hasn't been commented on in quite a while.

You know, I don't know whether its the song I'm listening to, or my mood lately, but... I started crying as I read the last line. Something like this, its... I don't even know how to describe it, because beautiful would be a complete downgrade. All I can do is thank you for posting it here. So thank you

wow sounds like she's been through a lot, she's a very strong woman. i give her soo much credit for that. and to be able to keep going on with that kind of dedication, i really envy that. to be able to have that strong of a love for someone even after they pass. i couldnt even imagine going through that, and she's survived and put up with all of it. she's very brave. god bless her, she deserves all the happiness.... i think everyone could learn a lot from some one like her.

Thank you so much for giving all of us a little insight and explanation behind this picture. I cant stand people who do not give an explanation to vauge pictures... although this picture could have successfully done without an explanation - it makes the picture SO MUCH more meaningful... this brightened my day!

Shoots happen less frequently than I'd like, but I've had to find some balance in my life. And since photography is a hobby, it has to be given an appropriate slice of time.

That's beautiful. My grandma just passed away in November. I'm down to one grandparent. It is very sad. But, I had the opportunity to be very close with all four of my grandparents and 2 of my great-grandparents. All extraordinary in their own unique way; all have shaped who I am.
Thanks for reminding me how sacred those relationships are!

Sorry to hear about that, Beth. I sure hope you had the chance to spend some time with her during your trip to the states last year.
This grandmother was about it as far as my four go. I met my father's dad once or twice, but that was it. The lovely lady in this shot really shaped my view of how to experience the world.
We all owe a debt to them.
My pleasure.

"To faith, to a partner, to a dream, to a desire, to a lifestyle."
This is just great man, the shot and the meaning behind the shot. the world is a different place these days, we should learn from the past and our elders.
Thank you for sharing this man.
