I wish I could have made more so I could sell them at reasonable prices. Actually I wish I had made more so I could sell them for unreasonable prices and still keep one. Oh well, maybe I can get around to it at some point if I get access to a foundry.

Very nice sculpture, I rather agree with the message being portrayed as well, good job. So in making this piece, I'm assuming you sculpted it out of a softer substance and then poured the aluminum into a mold? Any reccomendations to me on how to go about making such a sculpture?

It is done in lost wax casting. Here is a pretty good link for explaining. [link]

Mine was hand sculptued as a one-off in brown wax though, so if I want another I have to start all over.
The facilities I used for this were at the university I graduated from. They have let me go back and use it once, and maybe they'll let me do it again. If you have access to a kiln you can probably make a wax piece, invest it, use the kiln for burnout....it gets messy thought with the wax coming out, so a special kiln for just that process is usually used. You might be able to build a small one out of kiln brick and use a small propane tank over a while for heat..... that would be really kind of iffy though. You could also use a softer metal, like lead or pewter if you are going to be doing it yourself. I don't really know what kind of facilities your school or anyone around you has, so I'm not sure what to tell you.

awsome... I want to learn how to make sculpures like that...

Bingus In reply to MagdalenaTR [2005-12-24 04:33:26 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. It's not terribly different from sculpting anything else, except for the fact that you have to have somewhere to cast it. I don't have that anymore. It's so sad.

I favd this because it's very good. I just hope it's critisizing television and not praising it. Well either way techically it is exellent.

It's actually a commentary on what TV is to people.

PasiFist In reply to Bingus [2005-12-13 08:14:13 +0000 UTC]

I thought it would be something on those lines. It's very good anyway.

How long have you been doing sculptures to get to that point?

Bingus In reply to PasiFist [2005-12-13 18:04:40 +0000 UTC]

Well, im only 22 now. I've only done these aluminum castings in the past year or so. I've always played around with clay and things like that though. I never got really serious about clay or casting until later in college. My metal pieces were started around in high school though.

Well you going to get somewhere if you keep up that good work and find inspirations. I browsed through your gallery and there's many good works there. And what does age mean anyway many of the reneissance masters were very young when they created their first master pieces (mind you they were....well them), but what I'm trying to say is ages are irrelevant to the creation process (sure there's the points on life experience that reflect from the works etc.), but still.......oh well just keep on creating.

Oh that is really good, you've done a brilliant job, what is it made out of, its a real shame here on deviant art art like this brilliant piece is as well recongnised, you definetly deserve exsposure. great work

Bingus In reply to dislatino [2005-11-15 19:45:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. It is an aluminum piece done with in the lost wax casting method. The base is inked pink granite, and it is mounted with epoxy.
