The top spike could look like it's part of Alphys, but the other spikes pull away from it. (Alphys's head looks more like if Sonic had his face stretched forward a bit and also got a haircut.)

Weapons for what? There were royal guards, monsters, and tons of puzzles to keep his stuff safe.

Asgore had all that to keep him safe and yet you still are able to meet him face to face and fight him. Gaster couldn't simply let an enemy walk by if he confronts them. Toriel and Asgore have their fire magic (and Asgore has that color thing), Sans and Papyrus have their bone attacks, Undyne has her magic spears, Alphys (in a way) has Mettaton and I believe her own electric magic, and Gaster would have the Gasterblasters (which Sans also has). You can't just rely on those around you to keep you safe, if they fail you are screwed.
