Description
How it's made: My Fresh daily doodle~The finished version is here: [link]
I for one thought i won't finish it, so i saved a few steps. When i finished it, started retouching and i realized that i saved these for just-in-case moments.
I am not sure these will help you much, but it's how you must think:
And to this, if you're working with a reference like me, i grayscale the reference image and take a GOOD look at it. I look at the values, the darkest, the brightest (and you'll be surprises, that not always you get it right, when viewing in colour) i look at the texture, i look, for example, at the dots on the apple: how are they actually made? they're this layer of dark dots, brighter lines over there, darker lines over here, and so on
About the brushes that i used, only the standard hard, round one.
In no case have i messed with the spacing or others..that is all.
Here ya go folks, for the ones that asked me
And now you have no excuse to try one of these babies too!!
Katrina!! I'm waiting for your apple!! YOU KNOW I AM~

i am glad it was of any help
be careful with your opacity; it was 100% no pen pressure when blocking;

Niiice, keep it up. Now look for color shapes and underlying tones, think about the surface it sits on, and how that color effects the object. Right now, there is not much green tint on the red apple... it should mostly be blackish, but since you pushed the orange, you could push the greens

I'm not sure exactly how to explain it... but there is a color you think it is (an apple is red) and an underlying tone... meaning, the light color that is bouncing onto your object.
So here, let me go further:
In color, you have the main color of your object. This is the color that you feel it is, that you know it to be, regardless of what actual color it looks like at that precise moment.
A yellowy warm light will make an apple seem more orange... it's a combination of the light color and the true color of the object...
A cool cloudy morning diffuse sunlight will make the apple seem more purpley and less orange. This is again a combination..
Then we take into account surface reflections and influences... every object interacts with the objects that surround it.. Every piece of the puzzle creates an overall local tone or color that you can figure out based on the colors around it.
So when I say underlying tone... I mean... the apple is red, but the underlying tone... the additional colors, whatever it is really called (I'm not so technical when I explain it, sorry... I learn from myself so I don't know the right terms) has a hint of green. That's from the apple's surface picking up the green light bouncing onto it from the surface it rests on.
Does that make sense?

Makes a whole lot of sense!!!!
So basically i have this red apple, yeah..n it has a green reflection, i add that, then i have a space in between, witch is made from a bit from both, and if it's near to the beginning of the highlighted part, this in-between tone will be more saturated, no?

Sometimes. It's hard for me to give you a clear cut answer for every lighting scenario. However, I will give you the name of my favorite color theory book..
Itten: the elements of color...
You can get it here: [link]
Most of what I learned in my color theory class in college (sadly I took only one), was out of this book. The rest was exercises and a lot of color wheels like these ones: [link]

xD Yes I will I will! I just need to find an apple to draw, but I'm not quite sure where to look. Dx
It's pretty amazing to see you blocked out all or most of the colours right away from the start. I tend to just start with basic tones and then add colours on top. @_@

I think you should try here, here n here xD : [link] , [link] , [link]
That's cuzz i eye-dropped a few tones (ex. a red tone, a purple, a dark-red/brown) and then adjusted a few more from my wacky brain
Thank you dear
You bet i'm gonna pester you about the apple till i get it, no

in PS exista mai multe posibilitati de a obtine acelasi rezultat

it's something one can't actually teach really, it's in the pen pressure feel, and i hate to tell you this but no tutorial in the world can say it better, make it even a bit easier,..nope, not really, i do not believe

You blend very nicely, especially using a hard round brush with no softness ^w^
Did you use a color picker for the blocking in colours?
Because I'm urging to do that on my next fruit doodle, but I don't know if it's cheating or not...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BlackDelphin In reply to GweNdZ [2009-07-29 17:13:57 +0000 UTC]
thank you very much dear!!
i still can't believe it myself!! i'm using a hard round brush on 100% opacity
well i did pick from the ref, and as you can see i added some tones i thought were nice, and i eyedropped, naturally, while i blended
and it's something like you asking: is adjusting the levels cheating?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GweNdZ In reply to BlackDelphin [2009-07-30 13:53:20 +0000 UTC]
ok I don't think it's cheating then ^^ I still cyber-love you, friend!
