Description
Nathan sighed, rubbing his temples. "It's a creature of Native American legend. The worst of the New World monsters," he finally told her mysteriously."It imitates the voices of loved ones to draw its prey out into the open."He looked at Cheyenne, his eyes startlingly clear. "When I founded this place with Sam and Mike, we were building it to protect monsters from humans, and from themselves. But I also knew we were safeguarding against other monsters. Not all of us are reformed, Cheyenne. Some are too ancient and inhuman to change at the present time."
Cheyenne sat very still, imagining dark figures and creatures lurking just outside of the camp's borders, deep in the pines. She shivered. Nathan reached slowly across the desk and grasped one of her hands in his, giving it a squeeze.
"Hey," he said, his voice soothing, "I am here to do everything in my power to give your generation of monsters the brightest future I can. I don't want you to be afraid. I just want you to understand."
He let Cheyenne go and she stood up slowly. "I understand." She murmured.
"And you may find yourself wanting to tell your friends about this creature. Surely more than the two of us heard it. And you may, if you like."
"Nathan?" Cheyenne stared at her shoes, afraid to ask but wanting so badly to know. "What is this thing, really? I've never heard of something so… dark."
Nathan considered her for a moment. He reached to his right for a pencil, and pulled out a slip of paper. On it he wrote something, and then folded it in half. When he handed it to Cheyenne she felt like she was receiving some dangerous artifact.
"Just don't say it out loud, please," Nathan told her. "The name has power." And then he smiled at her, a confident, reassuring gesture.
"I won't." She promised.
When Cheyenne had left the office and made her way out of the Lodge, she took the paper from her pocket and turned it over and over in her fingers, without unfolding it. It wasn't until she was safe in her cabin, curled up on the bed, that she dared look at it.
In the middle of the paper in Nathan's sharp, tall handwriting was one bizarre word: Skinwalker.
Cheyenne didn't know why, but it disturbed her the way no other monster name had before.

Thanks! The rest of the story isn't really like that... just certain snippets when needed. XD
Pft, I know - it seems I am incapable of drawing unattractive characters. Though it works well for him to be handsome because there is a character he tricks into trusting him in a time before the main story takes place... and even though she never had any kind of romantic feelings towards him I think she'd be more likely to fall for the trap if he looked trustworthy.

Oh he's pretty despicable despite the clean look. But since I wanted him to look modern and be able to possibly pass for human I didn't make him look too crazy.

Man, this drawing is awesome, just plain awesome. There's something about the combination of the bright, fiery eyes, the pointed teeth, the white hair, the darker skin, and the light stubble that really makes for an incredibly mysterious and villainous yet cool looking creature. I love his design, and the name too. Skinwalker has such an ominous ring to it. I can't wait to see what else you have in store for him. I like seeing your take on skinwalkers, because they're a monster in Supernatural, this show that I watch, except they look completely different, especially the eyes. (Also, your writing is simply brilliant. I loved reading a slightly longer excerpt from Monster Club! I hope you post more.)

Thanks so much! Ah, so glad you like the hair! I tried a lot of different things with it, like keeping it dark since he's of Navajo descent, or making it long and wild, but I hated the long hair because it looked like an anime guy. D: And since Nathan and this guy are foils for each other, dark hair would make them match more... in the end white was better. It's striking, unnatural. I also thought about having it be all kinds of natural colors blended - like streaks of reddish brown, brown, black, grays, tans, white, etc. But that's a little too out there - he needs to barely be able to pass as human on the streets. XD
Ah yes, when doing my research on skinwalker mythology I kept coming across it in supernatural. Although the whole idea of murdering to become a skinwalker was that skinwalkers are pure evil… so I don't get the idea of "killing" your mom while being born making you a skinwalker. Because in the original mythology it has to be deliberate murder. But I would like to watch Supernatural sometime so I'm not hatin', haha.
And thank you; I'm glad I can write well. :3

I like how you took into account the fact the he and Nathan are foils, and you based his looks off of that.
Oh, allow me to go on a slight rant for a bit: I would definitely recommend watching Supernatural! It'll take a long time to catch up, since the 9th season is airing now (new episode tonight, haha!) but you'll soon find that you won't be able to stop. It's interesting how they portray different monsters, whether good or bad, and the two main characters often do research to help them. I like watching them learn about the ancient mythology and folklore associated with the monsters. It's a very cool show.

Thanks. I've been thinking hard about these things. My favorite foil is when the villain is what the hero would become if the hero lacked something, like friends, or kindness, etc. The skinwalker isn't quite that for Nathan, but there is a sense that they are capable of all the same horrible things, only one of them has chosen a brighter path.
Gosh, there are so many shows I want to watch and I end up just dabbling in them, but I might try some Supernatural. If you love it than I'm sure I'll like it, haha.

In Navajo mythology they are described as "glowing like hot coals", even in the sunlight. And I loved that idea.
