Description
A famous scientist is given a mysterious message and instructions to build a device, upon completion of it a mysterious figure appears that informs him this was a test to prove his worth, the figure is an alien named Exeter who comes from a dying world, Metaluna. Metaluna is beign seiged by the villainous Zagon race, pummeling meteors into the planet, and has only hours left to live, the Metalunans intend to relocate their surviving population to Earth. Exeter takes our characters with him to his dying world where it is hoped they can help, but it becomes too late, betraying his people in the face of an immoral experiment upon the humans Exeter gives his life to help the characters flee the doomed world, it's in the climax where we see the famous Mutant design as it attacks.

As a child this guy stuck out to me more than almost any other creature design in any film of the era or even decades after, it's just one of the most alien and unique costumes ever created in my opinion. I had a bit of difficulty figuring out what to do for the eyes but I think what I went with works good enough. Being as colorful as he is, the Metaluna Mutant was almost too easy to adapt to this month's drawings!

Here is a bit more interesting trivia for my closest fans, to accompany the Crabulon trivia in my Martian picture... In it's earliest stages, my original series Astronautical actually was given the title This Island Earth in an obvious homage to the film, given the aquatic and spacefaring nature of my series I thought the title made sense at the time, but of course I eventually realized an original title of my own was needed and This Island Earth was scrapped.
