Personality-
    ♢Creative, Proactive, Open-Minded [+]
▹Being a leap-before-looking type of person, Cody prefers to make things happen rather than waiting for things to happen. He is not afraid to take charge when the need arises. He is able to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions to problems and general ways to go about things. Being a general goofball, Cody is highly energetic and loves to entertain. He often tries to find ways to get creative and spontaneous in situations which call for it. Cody tends to keep an open mind and enjoys listening to and playing off of the ideas of others. Cody very often tries not to discriminate against others based on their origin, beliefs, or past actions, as he feels that most anyone has the capacity to be good or change for the better.

    ♢Silly, Daredevil [o]
▹Cody's reckless tendencies usually end up leading him into some bizarre, hilarious, and dangerous situations. Being rather clownish, Cody loves getting people to laugh, or generally improving one's day, and he will go to great lengths to make someone happy. He will show off his goofiness just to crack someone up. Cody rarely declines a good challenge, even if completing whatever task he is handed would have him risk his safety, and the harder to crack up, the better. Of course he's gotten hurt in the past because of how audacious he can get, but in the end, it's worth it. At least, that is what Cody believes...

    ♢Emotionally Fragile, Possessive, Childish [-]
▹Cody loves to surround himself with people who will give him attention. If he doesn't receive the attention he wants, he will actively seek it out. Once he makes a friend out of someone, it's not uncommon for him to become rather possessive over them, as friends are especially precious to him. He will practically cling to others and act rather jealously if he isn't the primary center of attention. Similar to that of a child, Cody will whine about not being paid attention to, or being bored, or most general things that cause annoyance. He isn't the most mature person in the world and his behavior will make that relatively clear. Despite how upbeat and confident Cody may seem the majority of the time, it is easy for his feelings to become hurt. Cody doesn't take criticism from other adults easily, especially if harsh. He doesn't do well under pressure either--in dire situations, he could easily become more dangerous than helpful.

History-
♢Born into a slow-developing village nestled away in a dense forest beside rolling slopes that turned into jagged mountains, a young, three-tailed Buizel named Dacota grew up with the intention of becoming a famous entertainer. Dacota's parents--a grouchy Floatzel father with a dark brown pelt and a shrill Ninetales mother with eighteen tails--disapproved of their daughter's silly aspirations, wishing she would take life more seriously...but Dacota was a child who hadn't yet had proper experience out in the real world. She would grow out of this naivety soon enough.

♢Dacota started training with the village's other children at a relatively young age, under the watchful eye of her elder. The elders of her village often trained up to ten children at a time, until the children were experienced enough to be independent hunters or gatherers. Dacota learned self-defense and hunting techniques, just as everyone else had. It was through the training under her elder that she made friends with a certain dark-feathered Torchic named Xuxa. Despite the bird being five years younger than her, the two of them got along rather well. Dacota considered the two of them to be as close as two peas in a pod. Dacota loved the young bird to bits. The Buizel had made other friends of varying ages, but none were quite as precious to her as Xuxa.

♢As the young Buizel grew older, she began to discover things about herself. Cody found herself unable to relate to a lot of the other girls in the village. She just wasn't like the other girls--and just about everyone knew it. Cody found no pleasure in doing girlish activities or attempting to look girly. She always had a very 'neutral' look about her, normally wearing a baggy t-shirt-and-jeans outfit. The only thing that visually suggested that she was indeed a girl was her long, unkempt hair. Most of her friends would tease her and call her strange for being the way she was, but Cody took it as a compliment, if anything. She didn't pay much mind to her personal feelings as a child. She simply shrugged them off and told herself it's because she's a 'quirky tomboy'. But the older she got, the more she began to question herself. Eventually, she came to the conclusion that she simply didn't...feel like a girl.
After many months of questioning herself and whether or not being uncomfortable in one's own body was something she wasn't alone in facing, Cody figured that she needed to talk to someone about this. The otter didn't want to discuss the matter with her parents as she figured they wouldn't be of any help--they would simply tell her that she was being melodramatic over imaginary matters and to discontinue hyper-focusing on it. Given how often they expressed their disapproval at Cody's general childish behavior, the otter figured she would have to start out with talking to a friend.

♢Cody opened up to her blackbird friend about her identity problems first. Xuxa was the friend she was closest to, after all. She questioned why she just wasn't like the other girls--why she couldn't just be like the other girls--and expressed her frustration. How she felt that she wasn't just different from the others in one sense. Xuxa listened patiently to Cody vent for a while. Neither of them knew of the word 'transgender'. Gender identity was something that was only rarely discussed in their village. Not that identifying as anything other than cis was a sort of taboo--most people simply had a plethora of other things to concern themselves with. Xuxa assured Cody in awkwardly-worded sentences (as she wasn't the best at comforting others) that she was fine with however they wanted to identify. It made no difference to the blackbird. Cody was simply Cody, in her eyes. The otter appreciated the support, but wasn't satisfied. Cody wanted to know what she...rather, he, was.

♢Cody opened up to some of his other friends about how he felt, partially out of curiosity concerning their reactions, partially because he needed answers. After several confused looks and a few insensitive questions, some of them admitted they saw Cody more as a guy and encouraged him to express his masculine side by doing more masculine things. Others responded politely but seemed to distance themselves from him. The concept of one identifying as something other than cis was foreign to most, but some were still supportive. One bookworm acquaintance of Cody's dug up an old book from the small village library and gave it to him to read. It was through this that Cody came across the words that he realized described him perfectly. 'Transgender'. 'Demiguy'. He identified as something closer to male, though he was not strictly male. Finally, he had words he could use to describe himself.
The Buizel's friendships had changed after coming to terms with his identity. Cody began to feel more comfortable in his own skin. While he did partake in more traditionally masculine things to fit his role, Cody still did not talk openly about his identity with his parents, not trusting that their reactions would be as kind as that of his peers. They never bothered to confront him about it, thank Arceus, so he never bothered to let them know. He, still to the displeasure of his parents, never stopped aspiring to become a famous entertainer. That silly dream was enough to rile his parents up; Cody saw no need to work them up over anything else.

Time passed and soon enough, Cody--now a bubbly and slightly eccentric three-tailed Floatzel with wild, knee-length hair--had grown old enough to take care of himself. Cody often worked around the little village, doing repair-work here and there, flirting with his peers for the fun of it, falling in and out of infatuation quicker than the eye could blink, serving food at the local cookery, telling stories to the children after their daily training sessions had ended. But life became painfully monotonous in the small village after a while. Cody felt discontent, not knowing the areas past the thick, overgrown forest beyond the village. He wanted more...something to fuel his boundless energy and give him something to be inspired by. Cody needed to be surrounded by something different--indulge in some sort of adventure. He got his opportunity when a clan of nomads had wandered through his village and brought various goods they had gathered on their travels to trade. The nomads were people full of stories Cody had never heard before. They held vast knowledge of many areas they had encountered on their travels. Cody longed to join them, to indulge in the adventures they set out on and to indulge in the vast knowledge they had gained over many years of traveling. Cody's imagination had grown wild with possibilities. The nomads quickly found that Cody's expectations of them were somewhat unrealistic, but after some convincing they did see potential in him, and offered to take the Floatzel in as one of them. He was able-bodied and very bright. Perhaps he would find whatever it was he was searching for if he came along with them. After receiving the offer to join the traveling group, Cody packed up what he could in his backpack and bid his parents farewell. His parents were skeptical of the entire situation, but figured the Floatzel could handle it. Dacota had grown up. If he wanted to return, he would. He knew the way. He'd ventured into the forests surrounding the village so many times, he practically had the area memorized. It wasn't uncommon for young adults to take their leave and try to find something other than a peaceful life in the village, after all. Cody never really knew how exactly his parents took his leaving...and never would.

♢The raid was something Cody never had to experience. Thank Arceus. He never would have made it out if they had been there. If he had stayed. The whole village was violently ambushed, burned down, and stomped to dust. By who, no one knew for sure. A large group, it seemed. The uneven ground gave way to too many frantic footprints to discern anything special. The undergrowth made it even more difficult. The buildings that stood even after the chaotic raid were broken, crumbling away. The occasional remains of villagers were the only trace of life...mostly just old clothes, though sometimes a cracked bone poked its way into view. No one dared to return back to this place, possibly out of fear of what it had become. You couldn't blame them for fearing the aftermath. Slowly--agonizingly so--the forest would begin to claim the dead and abandoned village as its own, once it recovered from being scorched to ashes. Thankfully the fire hadn't spread too far, but it left a definite mark on the land.
Cody never knew about what happened to his village for a long time. He had been busy learning the ways of the nomads he'd accompanied a few years ago. He learned so many new stories, compiling what he could into an ever-growing bundle of parchment he kept on his person. He loved gaining new knowledge about the world he lived in. Every time the nomads would stop in a village to rest, recuperate and trade, he would exchange his knowledge for anything else he could indulge himself in. Despite all he was learning, nothing quite prepared him for one certain encounter...

♢The first snow of the year had begun to fall from the grey skies. It was still autumn, but winter was coming in fast. There was a bone-aching chill in the air. Cody and his fellow nomads had stumbled across an old, slightly tattered, and seemingly abandoned house (looking back on it, 'shack' would probably be a more appropriate term, given the poor state the small building was in). Despite its apparent barrenness, upon inspection, Cody found that some cupboards in one of the three rooms were full of valuables that could fetch a pretty penny if they could find someone who would buy the treasures...but that's not all he found. Shivering, huddled in the corner of a room that appeared to be a bedroom, as Cody searched the three-room building, sat three children, one of them weeping softly. A six-winged Woobat, the youngest of them all, dressed in nothing but a filthy t-shirt, turned sharply to face the stranger, shaking in both fear and cold. One of his wings was bent awkwardly, a broken shackle attached to it. A Blitzle that appeared to be covered in fungi and plant overgrowth, lifted his head and let out a feral snort at Cody, his mane sparking protectively. He wore a less filthy shirt and an old pair of jeans cut to be shorts. The third child was a Growlithe, weeping softly, pressing herself hard against the wall and whimpering. It seemed that sharp rocks protruded from a few spots on her legs, but half of her body was hidden from Cody's view. A portion of the Blitzle child's jean legs was wrapped around one of her arm, trying to keep some wound from bleeding. Shocked and heartbroken at the sight, the Floatzel slowly knelt down and removed his backpack. Cody rummaged around and pulled out some plants he had harvested earlier in the day to eat and bandages. He set his pack aside and tried to speak comforting words to the frightened, shivering children. He started to approach them, slowly, cautiously. He held his hands out to show that he only had bandages in one hand and food in the other.

"Hey...hey, it's okay. Are you alright? You look like you could--"

Immediately the Blitzle snapped at the Floatzel and zapped him with a weak Spark. Cody flinched at the zap, but it wasn't strong enough to hurt him.

"Go away!"

"J-Jan, no-!" the Woobat child tried to protest but the Blitzle zapped Cody again. The Floatzel stopped trying to approach them.

"...It's okay to be scared," Cody said in a gentle tone, "I know you're cold and hungry, and..."

"Shut up!"
Another zap. Cody flinched harsher this time. His hair was beginning to frizz. The little Woobat began to cry, mostly out of fear that something bad was about to happen.

"S-stop it!"

This time it was the Growlithe who spoke up. Immediately the Blitzle stopped, huffing a bit. Attacking like that had easily drained the poor kid's energy.

"Attacking them will just make them mad! M-maybe they're actually..." she quieted herself down, staring at some point on the floor. The Blitzle slumped down and huffed. Cody frowned a bit, looking the children over. If they had parents, they were long gone. No parent would leave their child like this. Cody continued his careful approach and soon knelt near the children. He offered the food he had gathered for himself earlier to them, and set the bandages down on the floor. The children all eyed him cautiously. Finally, Cody could see the previously hidden side of the Growlithe's face. The poor girl. Half her face was covered in grotesque, rocky growths that caused her face to appear painfully contorted. She was almost nothing but skin and bones, she was so frail. Tears stained her dirtied pelt. The stones grew out of various portions of her body...it was truly heartbreaking. These poor children...

"I-...I picked these earlier. I was gonna eat them later, but...it looks like you need these more than I do, huh?" Cody softly smiled.

The children warmed up to the tall otter after that. He learned their names--Jansen was the Blitzle's name. Daisy was the Growlithe. Gulliver was the little Woobat. They were so young...far too young to be alone in the middle of dangerous woods. From what Cody could tell from the shackle around one of Gulliver's wings, they had probably been forced into some workplace. Cody couldn't just leave them. Not like this, not when winter was coming in fast. There was no way they would make it. Cody would never forgive himself if he left them. So he took the children under his figurative wing and started raising them. His fellow nomads commended the Floatzel for his willingness to care for these strange children, and didn't have the heart to tell him he couldn't bring the children along. If they had concerns, they didn't openly voice them.

♢A couple years elapsed, and Cody found that trying to raise children when you were constantly on the move as well as without any particular guidance was more difficult than he had anticipated. He had done a decent job at it nonetheless. The children were still quite young--Daisy was barely turning twelve, Jansen was nine, and little Gulliver was five--and they had a lot to learn. Cody knew that to be able to continue learning and developing as normal children should, they would have to settle down in one spot, but given the nature of the nomads, he knew he was likely going to have to depart. Luckily for him, his clan was starting to head back to familiar forests. He could easily raise his adopted children in his home village.
If he had a village to go back to anymore.
Cody wasn't sure when to expect when he'd come back home. Whatever it was, he never would have been prepared to come back to the aftermath of what looked like a violent, fiery raid. It almost looked as if a huge monster had rampaged through. Trees were scorched. Buildings that once stood proud were crumbling away. The walkways, lined by stones, were difficult to recognize. Remains of wood, glass, and stone were scattered across the space. The whole village was left in a sad state of disrepair. Not a trace of life was left. But, surely people made it out. Even if whatever had happened had been a surprise attack, the people of his village were able-bodied and could have easily made it out alive. The Floatzel was of course shocked by what had happened in his absence, but he had to remain positive, both for himself and the sake of his children.
It turned out he was out of places to go. But, Cody was determined to make sure there was absolutely no trace of anyone else in the village. The nomads simply continued on their journey, gifting the Floatzel with a map of the land they had scoured, with their next destination (along with several other destinations) marked so he would know where to go if he decided to rejoin them on their travels. The desolate village held nothing of value to the nomads anymore--not even adequate shelter. They had to keep moving. Cody understood. He kept his children with him and stayed behind. If he really could find nothing, no trace of anyone else who might have resided there at one point...he, too, would move on.

♢Cody had taken up residence in an old house which he recognized, even in its state of disrepair. He made do with what he could find within the house. He found books that were kept in a surprisingly good condition, old games with missing pieces, relatively old clothes that his children could fit into, and a storage unit that was still intact. He utilized the skills he'd gotten from doing odd jobs both from when he was young and while traveling around with his nomad clan to repair some of the utilities. He left a note for anyone who might stumble across the village and left it in his temporary residence. It wasn't in plain sight, but the well-trained eye could pick it out between some scattered papers that had been stuck to the floor through water damage. Anyone who used to live in the village would recognize it as out of the ordinary at once.
Cody used this temporary stop to pass on what his elders had taught him as a child. The teachings that he'd grown up knowing by heart were all so foreign to the little ones. The Floatzel believed that he wasn't doing good enough, that he could never do good enough, for the children he'd taken and started raising. But he was trying. He had to keep trying. They were getting along somewhat well, so he was doing something right.

♢One day, not too long after the Floatzel and children had begun to settle into the broken village, it became apparent that a stranger had passed through, looking for something. Several items throughout the residence had been displaced. Even items in other buildings had been disturbed. Drawers were left open. Doors had gone ajar. The stranger was almost desperately searching for something, given the amount of items that had been taken from where they'd sat and sloppily replaced in the general area. A hastily-scrawled reply to the note Cody had left to be found was left for the Floatzel himself to find. Cody found it in a place only someone who had lived in the village knew of--a secret place where the trainees would hide while training to go out into the forest at night. Cody knew that whoever had left the response note used to reside there, like him.
The note was rather simple and vague, but it filled Cody with hope. The response note mentioned a place by the name of 'Home', and which direction the place was in respect to the village. Having nowhere else to go, and with winter approaching fast, Cody figured it couldn't hurt to check the place out. Hopefully the place wasn't a trap...but Cody couldn't afford to think of things like that. Or, rather, refused to think of things like that.

♢Cody packed up what he could. Edibles, books, clothes, other necessities...he could only fit so much in his old backpack. The kids were starting to grow bored of the place, and there was no way the village would be able to adequately protect them from the harshness of winter. the Floatzel decided to put a positive spin on the situation. Snow was drifting down to settle on the ground...

♢After a tedious and tiring journey through the slowly-collecting snow, Cody found that whomever had left the response note for him to find hadn't lied. Thank sweet Arceus above. If the stranger lived here, Cody would have to find and thank them profusely. Home appeared to be a welcoming enough place. Welcoming enough for the otter-sicle that Cody was beginning to turn into at this point. Rather gladly, Cody began to file out the necessary paperwork to become an official resident. He was glad he had a chance to start living a proper life where he could raise his kids. He wasn't sure what exactly Home had in store for him, but he figured it was better than many alternatives...
