Description The idea here is that as the hydra snaps at the dog, the man leaps in a few steps to slash at its snout while keeping an eye at the other head.

Update; I made a little animation of some of the variations I've tried since uploading the image: sta.sh/01761ic0v4x8

to :iconimprovement-club: Legs. I want help with the man's legs. If you see something else that is obviously wrong I'll gratefully accept advice on that too.

Hi! Encountered this piece via Improvement-club. (Yay a fantasy action scene!) I think I see what's wrong with the legs, but I'm not 100% sure and even less sure about my redlining skills. *sweatdrop* Sorry if I fail to explain in words.

His right leg (our left)
I think it's mostly a foreshortening issue. Maybe the upper thigh should be wider. Right now, its width looks uniform through the entire thigh, but it might be an illusion due to his clothing. Also, the width difference compared to other thigh is quite big. The camera angle isn't close enough to exaggerate it that much, and I doubt his crotch is super wide either.

His left leg (our right)
This leg looks too stiff/static for a dynamic about-to-take-a-swing pose. I think bending the knee more so that the lower half isn't so vertical would help by suggesting some spring in his step (for preparing to charge into his attack or absorbing impact from his step.)

Good luck! (Don't blindly trust my suggestions. I didn't pose to confirm. *lazy* )

Thanks! You might be on to something there.

Okay, the fist wrong-looking thing I noticed was the fact that the dog has no shading. And overall the shading is quite subtle. Try exaggerating a bit more
The legs themselves are quite good and the feet are also pointing in the right direction, but rather I think the upper body is not right. Starting from the hip, his whole body is turning away from the hydra. For the shoulders, you could say he's reaching back to get good momentum, but the rest of his body should be turned to the hydra a little more, so that you can see he's not running away from it, but attacking it.
I hope you understand what I mean... do you want me to make a redline?

I made the guy first, just to practice drawing action poses, then I blocked in everything else. It's not a finished piece. So forget everything that isn't the man.

When I try the pose myself, the entire torso turns with the shoulders when preparing for the swing. So I think the problem is more with the legs.

A redline would be nice. Or, if I may make a request... I see you like cosplay, would it be possible to have a photo of you doing this pose?

I thought you had someone who could operate the camera.

Yes of course, I can ask my friends. I just have to find a cosplay that's good for photos like this, because if for example I'd do hinata again, you'd see nothing of the pose because of her giant jacket xD

I kind of like the drawings with him having the front foot closer to his body, it looks a lot more like he is moving and rushing between the dog and the hydra.Ā
I actually did some changes on the legs as well when doing the redline and i actually chose the opposite (his leg being more straight, but in front of his body).
I will upload it now, let's see if it helps you

After reading Meekochan's comment about the left leg I sort of realized that running is an off-balance affair.

Before that I only moved the right leg around.

I'm seriously considering buying one of these now: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU1_Qg…
Damn the cost, it would be a huge time-saver to just pose a doll and see where the limbs end up.
