Description
Well, since everybody liked my old Mewtwo picture so much, despite the fact that it's pretty old and I think I could do better now, I decided to upload the finished version too. You'll have to excuse the 'Neko'-mark. That's just there to counter theft.Personally, I think that adding a photograph as a background was pretty lame of me, but... Back then I couldn't do backgrounds, so... Whatever...

Pendrawing and Photoshop
Heh, this is the same picture, except I made a nice background for it. I downloaded a photo of the Earth as seen from space, and made it fuzzy. Then I added Mewtwo, made him a bit darker and tried to give him a blue 'haze', which would have to pass for psychic energy. This picture has actually been on my desktop for a while.

It's hilarious. It was on HBO for a while... you don't have HBO, do you?
Anyway, this is what I was referring to: [link]

Old isn't necessarily a bad thing, though using a photo background is a bit lazy (but I can't say anything--I just don't do backgrounds )

Ugh, that thing... I should scrap it right now, just because of that background!
But seriously, that was the first picture I ever colored on the pc. So it has some sentimental value for me. I had this rickity old computer, and absolute fossil of an image editor (some ancient forerunner of the real Photoshop, I guess) and the most evil mouse known to mankind, to work with.
I was already pretty happy with myself for coloring my own art digitally; I totally wasn't able to draw my own backgrounds by myself.
So I downloaded a nice image of the Earth. At least I didn't just copy and paste that sucker in there. I did alter it a little bit so that it would look better in conjuction with the Mewtwo. I even altered Mewtwo's colors, to make him look a little darker than the original:

You know, cause space is dark too. XD
That's the only time I used a photograph for a background. I didn't do it again, because it just didn't feel right, so I went with background-less art for a while after that. Until I felt confident enough to give backgrounds a try again. XD

Your story sounds like my sister's. She began her digital art in the basic paint program on a '95 computer. When she got her first photoshop, she used photographs for all her backgrounds, but we both agreed that it was stupid and impersonal (not to mention subject to copyright...). She still uses photograph backgrounds occassionally, but she mostly creates her own backgrounds, and if she does use a photograph she seriously alters it.

Lol. All I did was add a lousy photograph and I altered the colors a bit, but okay. Thanks.
