The two mares, both with patterns reminiscent of butterflies though in different manners, entered the arena side by side, the colors of their saddle blankets and their riders' outfits chosen to tie the team together in spite of Akiko's monochrome color scheme and the contrasting, flashier, grey-white-and-blue of the Parisian Cabaret mare.
Despite the differences, it was a good match. The Nordanner's power and the lighter show horse's dance-like grace complimented and contrasted one another, and with some effort from their riders the two mares matched each others' steps practically stride by stride.

After you mentioned Aileen outshadowing Akiko I tried to think of a good way to tie them together and even it out a bit, and I think the butterflies and jacket/hat and saddle blanket colors help with that.
