Dude, this takes me back! I was still fairly new to the Navy when that issue of Lisa as POY came out. About 3 months earlier I was near the end of basic training and they let us leave the base and hang out with our family for a few hours a couple of days before graduation. My parents & grandmother actually flew all the way down to surprise me and see my graduation! Spent the first day off to see Disneyworld & Epcot. Next day we went around the local mall and that's where this hot girl-next-door-looking blonde caught my eye. She was walking around with her grandparents, I believe.  She had on a bright blue business dress on.

So when I saw that photo of Lisa in a similar blue suit in that issue my buddy was holding up, I thought that was the same girl, lol! He let me borrow the issue so I can draw her and eventually gave me a small stack of mags for me to practice drawing women. Everyone in my division knew I loved comic books and drew a lot superhero stuff. I never drew the models naked, I had a rule to keep them clothed Funny that the 90s was also the start of the whole modern age "Good Girl" and "Cheescake" pin-up craze, huh?

Lisa Matthews, Brandi Clarke were my fave PMs  even though I am really more of a Brunette guy. Leann Tweeden is up there. Loved Jenny McCarthy back in the day but Lisa has always been my favorite! All my drawings got lost around the time I left the Navy though.

I admit, I still haven't seen her POY video or her Dec 1990 issue yet.

In 1991, I was in my first year at CALARTS.

Down the block was a liquor store that sold liquor, comics and Playboys.

And I wasn't 21 yet.

So, comics and Playboys is what I bought.

Thanks, I was inspired by Paul Popes' Playboy Miss November 1978!

I wanted to draw my favorite Playmate, and I knew she had to be Lisa Matthews, PMOY 1991!

Oh, I know who she is. I'd just started college in the fall of 91 and was too obsessed with Erika Eleniak, Jacqueline Sheen and Kerri Kendall to care. My best friend thought I was insane not to dig her.

You are insane...

but yeah, Kerri Kendall.

That's a good choice too.
