“Alex! Put your mother down right now!” Now there was a sentence that Carly never thought she’d have to utter.
“Aww, but she likes it when I tickle her!”
Carly clapped her hands to her ears. Her eight-year-old niece’s shouted voice was so loud in the close quarters of the bedroom that Carly thought her eardrums would burst. It was hard to believe that Alex’s normally sweet, high-pitched voice now roared like a jet engine. Carly felt herself get a little weak in the knees as she tried to process the sight and sound of her now giant niece.
“Okay…he, he, okay, honey,” Lauren managed, pushing at her daughter’s huge, probing finger. “He, he…that’s…ha, ha…that’s enough tickling for now, Alex.”
Her daughter gave out with another disappointed “Aww!” but obeyed her mom, pulling her finger away.
Lauren patted her daughter’s hand. “Good girl. Now, did you forget that you have another doll?”
The girl’s huge eyes lit up. “Yeah! I got Carly Doll, too!”
Carly slumped back against the outside of the cage.
