"Will your kind kill us all, Kevin? Does any one care any more? Does any one still believe..." The question came to me as a plea, as a lament, as a cry whispered on the wind...For some reason I feel a little melancholy today, and when I looked at this pic I took of the Ladies, it seemed that their faces asked this very thing.
My own species makes me very sad...what do I say when this question is asked of me by the Universe?
I didn't use to think that my work had anything profound to say, I used to think that maybe it was just fantasy and something to amuse, and that maybe the criticisms I would get from "fine artists" was justified. And yet my work keeps saying things without my forcing it to...I guess that will be the "theme" of my show in November.

Thanks man! Yeah, well, I don't mind negative criticisms- they can all be positive critiques- but the reasons that some self-proclaimed "fine artists" have for disregarding my work seems unfair and a little self important to me...but yeah, damn the critics.

I get a lot of shit from many- not all, mind you- folks who consider themselves fine artists, and much to my dismay, from many other more fine art oriented sculptors as well. They- these more critical fine artists who look down on me and my work- poo-poo my subject matter- and in their minds lack of any meaningful themes- and really look down on my preferred medium- polymer clay- as somehow not being a legitimate (fine) art medium. I have always been a little surprised and distressed by the fact that I get as much negative reaction to my work from some fine artists as I do from people who don't care about art at all or who have never really been exposed to it...

People are such asses. Humor, joy and laughter are the most noble subject of ANY endeavor. Screw the sombre-serious crap already. we need something to lift our spirits from this stinking quagmire. This is what you do, be proud! I know I get crapped on because I write science fiction...'trash' as it's refered to by the great literary hoo-dahs and shoo-poops.

And thanks- that was what I was thinking today after my neighbors to either side of me cut down three trees and an entire flowering hedge- the three to one side of us and the latter to the other side. Then I listened to the news- don't know why I bother since everything seems to basically end with a "...and there's nothing you can do..." synopsis... Too much bad, too much violence, too much sorrow, not enough beauty, not enough magic, not enough hope or happiness... Critics be damned- I do what I do and I shall always continue to do so. Thanks...
