My most recent fully-rendered piece that I'm super proud of. I'm so happy with the water ripple effects, the Smear tool really saved my skin. Also super proud of the wings, I'm getting better at them which is really good. ;w;

Finally giving my boy Eugene some love too, after ignoring him for the last 3 years or so. I've been pondering on his backstory for a while now, I've been very focused on William though so I haven't gotten the chance to write anything down. I've also thought about perhaps changing his name? I know I'll be changing Mitch's surname (AGAIN) to something more fitting to where he's from, but for Eugene I might just straight up change his first name to Ethan? I really like that name, and after watching another playthrough of RE7, it just stuck with me. But I dunno, Eugene is also a really cute name and fits his sad, shy personality.

There's a bit of angel lore to this as well that I wanted to expand on. Eugene is an angel, but did something he wasn't supposed to for someone in his choir. He fell in love with a human.
This is something that goes against an angel's code, as that one person could break their pattern by falling for someone who has no pattern, which could in turn cause a chain reaction in the patterns of its fellow mortals and spawn a massive braid breach. Angel must avoid interacting with humans or other overworld beings in this kind of way... it is simply too dangerous.
So Eugene had a choice. Erase the memories of his loved one and be stuck in Celeste, or fall to the overworld as a weakened mortal and join his lover, never to return to Celeste and forever marked as a reprobate.

This place is where you end up when you're judged. The crescent moon's endless glare will judge you, and give you the two options. Either option you choose will lead to black wings, and the white of ones hair will fade with time. If you choose to stay in Celeste, you will ascend back up and remain there, forever judged by your actions and you may never leave, knowing your lover will forget about you but will remain safe. If you choose to return to the Overworld however, you will descend and fall underneath the surface of the bottomless water, and drown. Later waking up in the overworld, cold, sick and alone. Your connection to Celeste forever severed, and your soul banished from its gates.

It is a given for angels who choose to become mortal that they wake up with a phobia of the deep sea. They're afraid of drowning and afraid of the unknown, discouraging them from ever attempting to return to Celeste. This is, unfortunately, what happened to Eugene. He chose a life of mortality, hoping he could return to his love, but to no avail.... they had already moved on, as if he had never existed. All the people around him didn't see him, he was invisible to those with intact patterns.
He had no idea that's what would happen. Time had stopped for him, but continued in the overworld. When he returned, years had already passed. What seemed like minutes to him, was years on the surface. Just enough time for his love to forget him and move on, leaving him in the past.

YEAH YOU SEE WHY MY BOY IS A SAD BOY???? Though despite his really sad story, he's still able to interact with those who are either immune to pattern breaches, or have already broken their pattern, since then he's not actually putting anyone at risk by simply existing. Though he's still very scared of interaction, afraid to speak to people because of this trauma and fear of causing further harm. Hopefully however, with time, he'll be able to gain a new life and new friendships (and potential relationships) with people like him.
