Update: 2-26-2015

CAPSLOCK ON: I MAY RETURN TO THIS AFTER GRADUATING COLLEGE IN APRIL. I THINK I'D LIKE TO SET UP AN ACTUAL WEBSITE AND DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME. SO, CHECK UP ON THIS IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I MAY GET BACK TO IT!

achem. And there you have it...
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Added IPS file of v1.1 to the download link. I WILL NOT remove the other two files from the download link as they have been in place for quite some time. If you wish to edit this, please just use the IPS patch and ignore the other files. You cannot add two download links.

Update 11-08-2012

I opened Hyrule Magic to continue the dialogue edit and realized that I frankly don't have time to deal with how nitpicky that program tends to be. Darn it, I have to scrap this for the time being. Anypony who wishes can now take this project over. Go to the download link on the Deviant Art page. Goggle "Hyrule Magic" to learn how to edit this game. There are many tutorials that will show up under a Google search.

I've got some other ideas for games that could be made from the ground up. I want to move on from ponifying games. I do, however, intend to ponify the origional Metroid in the coming weeks.

Have a fun weekend with season 3! It's looking good!

I guess for now I'm sort of done with this particular hack. There's also a potential lady in my life now and that is sure to take up some necessary time.

Go on! Have fun with this. Add your favorite pony!

___________________________________________

Okay. Thank you for all that you do, bronies. So, just stick with v1.0 for now. I have to basically say that I'm done with this until I can figure out what is causing the weird screen glitch when even a tiny amount of in-game text is edited.

I will try modding some other games. I will post some previews on YouTube and maybe more sprites here.

Until next time, kick Ganon's butt with Derpy's hind hooves!
________________________________________________
Final update for the foreseeable future!

I went through and maticulusly re-edited the monologue from a clean file. Once I did, the weird screen glitches came back in the East Palace... I think it might have something to do with the way the memory is allocated in the Zelda ROM. Changing certain lines of text seems to impinge upon resources used for other parts of the game. Since there is nothing to indicate which lines of text work in this manner, I have no way of knowing what can and cannot be edited.

I am sorry, everypony, for the time being I WILL NOT be able to provide a bug-free version with ponyfied dialogue.

JUST USE v1.0 IN THE ZIP FILE FOR NOW!

If you're a programmer and can figure out how to fix this, let me know.

________________________________________________
I have determined that a bug was introduced on Friday when Hyrule Magic glitched out on me while editing the game monologue.

Included in the download link is v1.0 which is ONLY a sprite hack.

I will have to go back and restart the monologue edit. I may take as many as two days but now I have a backup in case Hyrule Magic decides to be funny again.

Sorry for the glitch!!!

IS ANYPONY ELSE EXPERIENCING A GLITCH AT THE FIRST BOSS?

Update 6/25/2012:

I have not finished all the text yet. I am working on that part.

I do not know why the game is glitching at the first boss.

Update in lieu of Phoe's most awesome LP!

Instructions for how to play:

1. You will need an SNES emulator.

A. Go to Google and type in "SNES Emualtor." I recommend the Newest version of SNES9X. ZSnes is decent but the sound is not as good as the latest version of SNES9X unless there has been an update I'm not aware of.

2. Once you have downloaded the ZIP file, uncompress and then open the .SMC in the emulator.

3. The game should begin running automatically.

4. Post bug reports here.

5. I am working on ponifying the dialogue. Hyrule Magic, the editing program, was evil to me a few days ago so the text will take longer to edit than I originally thought.

6. I do not have time to do a complete mod of this into Equestria. I can to the rest of the monologue.

7. This is an awesome community. One of you guys can do the graphic tiles or even uncompress all the other sprites and mod them. Just let me know and maybe we can coordinate our efforts.

8. To modify this game, you will need a program called "Hyrule Magic." Google to download. It is a tough program and there IS a tutorial online. Google "Hyrule Magic Tutorial."

BRONIES ARE THE BEST!

NEW UPDATE! 6/23/2012

I was editing the monologue in-game to be more ponyfied when Hyrule Magic bugged out on me. I lost 4 and a half hours of work.

Note: Up to line 157 of the in-game text is essentially done. I reached line 286 but then it bugged out.
________________________________________________

All of Link's in-game animations ponified!

Use these to make other alterations to the ponyverse!

It is my gift to the community before Everfree Northwest, which I sadly will not be able to attend even though it's like 3 blocks north of my house.

enjoy

I know this is probably against policy, but I really want the adjoining ROM to be available, so it is included in

Oh wow, I didn't know someone was working on "Ponyfying" the dialogue and I was planning on doing an LP series of this.  I'm so going to be playing through this version come the next recording session; I'm interested to see how much you've done.

Ugh.. I have a version that's pretty glitchy, so I'm not sure if you really want it. I believe it is still quite playable, though. Most of the glitches so far have been technically readable, or a sprite pallette problem (on one NPC) from the first edition before I touched anything.

Really, it's just glitches from the modified text not showing up properly. It would actually be a huge help if you could message me with any videos that have the glitches, timestamps, etc. Then I can fix them. (I like to watch the games you play on Youtube anyway.)

I don't exactly have the time to play through the entire game.

And if you end up doing it, I also want feedback on how well you think I ponified it. I tried not just to do pronouns and stuff, but the story itself. Like the fact that you are saving Princess Celestia, not Zelda. I couldn't really change that startup graphic, though.

Here is my latest version: drive.google.com/open?id=1Ggkr…

And if you want the access to the whole folder in Google Drive: drive.google.com/open?id=1wqzf…

Well if my experience in some of the new version I played (see part 3 of my Legend or Derpy playthrough), I can see some text issues in the intro and some sprite errors (which I did see in this version of the game).

I do plan on playing the entire game, so I’ll let you know of anything I find. I can respect the fact that you are trying to “ponyfy” the story, so I can help you out to the best of my ability.

Please enjoy the playthrough if you want or plan on watching.

Definitely, although could you comment here when you do? Your video might fly by my subscriptions. My Youtube is a bit busy. XD

The video will do a lot to rekindle my interest, since a lot of the reason I stopped working on it was the time it would take to painstakingly go through the entire game just to fix my mistakes. Having someone go through the game like this will be a lifesaver.

Especially since I also have to keep my readers of Fimfiction happy.

All right. Thanks!

I have a busy schedule with college right now, but now I can start the process of "advertising," at least as much as bronies can advertise.

I will at least bring it to Equestria Daily's attention, since they published things on it before. I'm probably going to make a website for it first.

Here is the latest version.

There are some text errors - if you could report anything you could find, that would be great. And no sprites other than Derpy have been modified yet. (The text is hard enough for now)

Yep, thanks. That is one that I am currently aware of, and it has been proving a real pain to fix.

(That is the only one I have documented right now, though, so any others you find will be a huge help. Also, it's nice to have the screenshot to look at instead of trying to play through until I reach each point. Again, thanks.)

Yeah, I saw that, too.

It's one of my main motivations for figuring out how editing sprites work.

As much as I can figure out, when the Link sprite was originally edited, something got changed that messed up one of the palettes.

DetsellaMorningdew [2017-02-04 20:13:56 +0000 UTC]

Hey, is it all right if I take over? I already ponified all the text, because I was bored, and I realized that I had a huge interest in learning how to edit the rest of the graphics.

How should I credit you for the work you already did?

As I edit the graphics and get intimately familiar with the game, I might even be able to do more than just name changes, and actually change the story to better fit Equestria.

Not sure about that one yet, but it's a possibility.

Anyway, I found this, and loved the idea, and was sad that it was discontinued, but it just happened to be a rom hack of one of the few games that have dedicated hacking programs. So I finally had the power to continue with it.

Botchos In reply to DetsellaMorningdew [2017-02-07 11:14:23 +0000 UTC]

It is all right if you continue this project. Cite me as the original creator and animator of the Derpy sprite. I would recommend changing the palette swaps which occur when you get the blue and red mail. Playing as Scoots and Blossom Forth was supposed to be a joke--this entire project was supposed to be a joke; I was just messing around. Had I realized the popularity this would have garnered, I would have spent a lot more time on it. As it is, I was pressed for a move and pressed for time. By the time I got to a point to return to this project, I was in my early 30s and frankly had no more time to work on it.

If you're using Hyrule Magic, beware of the bug it introduces if you ponify too much of the text.

DetsellaMorningdew In reply to Botchos [2017-03-27 02:12:08 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I finally redid all the text.

Now I'm going through the game, looking for all the glitched text.

I'm thinking that maybe I'll just release the game, and ask players to send me messages about exactly where those glitches are so that I can fix them.

Otherwise it will take me way too many hours trying to play through the game and encounter all of the text in the game.

DetsellaMorningdew In reply to Botchos [2017-02-22 03:43:53 +0000 UTC]

Of course. I definitely wouldn't steal what you did - it is rather good.

I am using Hyrule Magic, but I think it might have been updated or something, since the only instance it glitched was when I put too much text on a given line.

Still, my edition might take a while, as I tend to just do it in spurts.

And editing the other sprites in the game is significantly harder to do. It took me about three hours to find out how to edit Link's (Derpy's) shield properly. 8-bit palettes are complicated. (I did that as a test of the process. I plan to make every single character ponified eventually.)

Here is the link: drive.google.com/file/d/0B730h…

Please contact me about any text glitches you find. There shouldn't be many, but it is entirely possible that they exist.

Just tell me the first few words or so of the dialogue box as well as the words on the line that glitched.

Right now, I have the text ponified, but I plan to ponify the whole world, an endeavor that is a lot harder than changing Link's sprites.

Ganon is still going to be a giant pig, though. Changing that would be... almost impossible.

They're in some strange file format. You need to take those files and (I THINK) put them INSIDE of your ALTTP zipped game folder (or at least into a copy of it) and then access it with the emulator. If that doesn't work, then look on youtube for a vid of someone doing the same thing, except for The Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds.

This is a problem with the HEX and the fact that this game is so old the equivalent of a "short" (C++ lingo) was used for all memory allocations. The text was also a string primitive. You get like 4 bits of space for each thing if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, when the dialogue was modded in version 1.1, the memory resources impinged upon a part of the HEX that handles what the screen does in situations where it is supposed to represent shaking (the Armos Knights for example). This is fixable. I will get around to it. Right now I am busy with preparing for Everfree and trying to get animations done for ActRaiser. Please just read the description and use the version 1.0.

To counteract this against the Armos Knight you can try to rapid fire and kill him before he does this attack. However since you can't really do this against Ganon I found hugging the bottom and bottom right corner usually lets the camera shake and return to normal.
My biggest tip however is to quick save before each of these fights that way if you do get stuck in a glitch you don't have to deal with going through the level again.

I played v1.1 too. I noted all the glitches and how I got around them. My comment is right under your on the page. It's a wall of text but it might be able to help you.

EpsilonTLOSdark4 [2013-07-02 04:52:43 +0000 UTC]

So I just beat Version 1.1. Awesome! There are a few nasty glitches, but I was able to work around them.

1: When fighting against the last Armos Knight (both times) and Ganon they have a move which shakes the camera. This can result in a glitch where the camera stops mid-shake usually leaving you frozen in place.

To counteract this against the Armos Knight you can try to rapid fire and kill him before he does this attack. However since you can't really do this against Ganon I found hugging the bottom and bottom right corner usually lets the camera shake and return to normal.

2: The Master Sword, you can't pull it from the stone it always freezes the game.

The Solution: Cheat Codes!
7EF35902 gives you the Master Sword
7EF35903 Gilded Sword
7EF35904 Golden Sword

I entered the Master Sword cheat after getting all 3 pendants. Then I went to the sanctuary and the game continued as normal. As for the other sword upgrades either you can just use the codes when your suppose to upgrade or after you give away the sword but before you get it back if you turn off the cheat codes the game will naturally give you the upgraded sword. Turning cheats back on however will reverse this.

3: Scootaloo. Not a glitch but come on man, Scootaloo .

If you want to play the game entirely as Derpy just avoid the armor upgrades (Blue turns you into Scoots and Red into Blossomforth). So don't open the big chest in either the Ice Palace or Ganon's Tower.

All in all Awesome Mod and great game despite the few glitches worth the funny altered text. So go play it.
Play It Now!
