Update: 2-26-2015
CAPSLOCK ON: I MAY RETURN TO THIS AFTER GRADUATING COLLEGE IN APRIL. I THINK I'D LIKE TO SET UP AN ACTUAL WEBSITE AND DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME. SO, CHECK UP ON THIS IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I MAY GET BACK TO IT!
achem. And there you have it...

Added IPS file of v1.1 to the download link. I WILL NOT remove the other two files from the download link as they have been in place for quite some time. If you wish to edit this, please just use the IPS patch and ignore the other files. You cannot add two download links.

Update 11-08-2012
I opened Hyrule Magic to continue the dialogue edit and realized that I frankly don't have time to deal with how nitpicky that program tends to be. Darn it, I have to scrap this for the time being. Anypony who wishes can now take this project over. Go to the download link on the Deviant Art page. Goggle "Hyrule Magic" to learn how to edit this game. There are many tutorials that will show up under a Google search.
I've got some other ideas for games that could be made from the ground up. I want to move on from ponifying games. I do, however, intend to ponify the origional Metroid in the coming weeks.
Have a fun weekend with season 3! It's looking good!
I guess for now I'm sort of done with this particular hack. There's also a potential lady in my life now and that is sure to take up some necessary time.
Go on! Have fun with this. Add your favorite pony!

Okay. Thank you for all that you do, bronies. So, just stick with v1.0 for now. I have to basically say that I'm done with this until I can figure out what is causing the weird screen glitch when even a tiny amount of in-game text is edited.
I will try modding some other games. I will post some previews on YouTube and maybe more sprites here.
Until next time, kick Ganon's butt with Derpy's hind hooves!

Final update for the foreseeable future!
I went through and maticulusly re-edited the monologue from a clean file. Once I did, the weird screen glitches came back in the East Palace... I think it might have something to do with the way the memory is allocated in the Zelda ROM. Changing certain lines of text seems to impinge upon resources used for other parts of the game. Since there is nothing to indicate which lines of text work in this manner, I have no way of knowing what can and cannot be edited.
I am sorry, everypony, for the time being I WILL NOT be able to provide a bug-free version with ponyfied dialogue.
JUST USE v1.0 IN THE ZIP FILE FOR NOW!
If you're a programmer and can figure out how to fix this, let me know.

I have determined that a bug was introduced on Friday when Hyrule Magic glitched out on me while editing the game monologue.
Included in the download link is v1.0 which is ONLY a sprite hack.
I will have to go back and restart the monologue edit. I may take as many as two days but now I have a backup in case Hyrule Magic decides to be funny again.
Sorry for the glitch!!!

IS ANYPONY ELSE EXPERIENCING A GLITCH AT THE FIRST BOSS?
Update 6/25/2012:
I have not finished all the text yet. I am working on that part.
I do not know why the game is glitching at the first boss.

Update in lieu of Phoe's most awesome LP!
Instructions for how to play:
1. You will need an SNES emulator.
A. Go to Google and type in "SNES Emualtor." I recommend the Newest version of SNES9X. ZSnes is decent but the sound is not as good as the latest version of SNES9X unless there has been an update I'm not aware of.
2. Once you have downloaded the ZIP file, uncompress and then open the .SMC in the emulator.
3. The game should begin running automatically.
4. Post bug reports here.
5. I am working on ponifying the dialogue. Hyrule Magic, the editing program, was evil to me a few days ago so the text will take longer to edit than I originally thought.
6. I do not have time to do a complete mod of this into Equestria. I can to the rest of the monologue.
7. This is an awesome community. One of you guys can do the graphic tiles or even uncompress all the other sprites and mod them. Just let me know and maybe we can coordinate our efforts.
8. To modify this game, you will need a program called "Hyrule Magic." Google to download. It is a tough program and there IS a tutorial online. Google "Hyrule Magic Tutorial."
BRONIES ARE THE BEST!

NEW UPDATE! 6/23/2012
I was editing the monologue in-game to be more ponyfied when Hyrule Magic bugged out on me. I lost 4 and a half hours of work.
Note: Up to line 157 of the in-game text is essentially done. I reached line 286 but then it bugged out.

All of Link's in-game animations ponified!
Use these to make other alterations to the ponyverse!
It is my gift to the community before Everfree Northwest, which I sadly will not be able to attend even though it's like 3 blocks north of my house.
enjoy
I know this is probably against policy, but I really want the adjoining ROM to be available, so it is included in

Link's animations are quite easy to access. Every other sprite in the game requires a tricky decompression process just to get it to a point where it can be modified. I appreciate the suggestion and it is noted for a future version 2.

Just a note, you may want to consider going into the text files and altering all the instances of "him" to be "Her" since she's a female...and also, the artist renderings on the signs in kakariko village all still show link's face. It would be awesome if they showed Derpy's.

Oh! And maybe a title change, for a laugh. "Legend of Derpy, a Derp to the Derp"

Yeah. I've got a lot to take into consideration. I have taken mental notes of everything thus far. I won't be updating this for some time due to school and an impending move. Please continue offering suggestions. Version 2 will be more interesting. To bad Hyrule Magic is such a difficult program.

I'm sure it'll get easier as you go. Things normally only seem difficult on the surface.

I found a graphical glitch with some of the villagers in Kakariko. Link to the image below:

Unfortunately, that is caused by the pallet itself. It would be possible to fix, but it would involve changing all the colors associated with Derpy's hair and coat. It would take a few hours that I won't have in the coming days. I'll make a note of it for version 2. Thank you for pointing that out. I reckon you'll be seeing this from time to time.

I kinda guessed this sort of thing would happen, I've messed around with rom hacks before in the past. xD
Anyways, a friend of mine and I are going to be doing a let's play with this mod...if that's okay with you? I'll be sure to link to you in the description in our videos and give credit.

Go ahead. I won't be updating it any time soon due to school and a move. You may mention my name in the let's play. My last name is pronounced "Wil-ken" People always skew it up. lol.

Everypony, be sure to let me know if you encounter any glitches along the way. I haven't played through this (yes, my own hack...) yet due to a lack of time. Just let me know if anything is wrong.

It has been such a loooong time i have played link the the past.. or well derpy to the past XD. Nice that you released the sprites so others can change them to their favorite pony. An explination to add it would have been nice though. But it might be very basic I believe.

Actually, this sprite is extremely counter intuitive. There really isn't a logical explanation for what each frame does. In terms of inserting the sprite into Zelda 3, go here: [link] It is a three-part tutorial on Hyrule Magic, the software I used.

Thanks this will come in handy ^.^ Well I did tell my friends about it. So I do hope it spreads out. I do intend to link your page on mmo-champion for all the bronys there that post to see your work.

I am aware of that. The trouble is, I really do need to move, or rather, I ought to move before August... I suppose I could stay through the Summer, but I don't really want to.
Bronies, give me a reason to stay!

Because going to everfree would be awesome, and this is your last chance (maybe)to go there if you move too far, also you will have more time to work on code if you stay, of course idk why you need/want to move so i really dont have any valid reasons, it would be cool though, I wish I was close to a good convention
