Description
Here's the finished piece I whipped up specifically with the intention of getting Charles Martinet--Mario's voice actor-- to sign it. I'm pretty happy with how that fire turned out. Also with what I can only describe as my internalized image of Luigi: ever-present, rarely helping, often terrified.Colored with my trusty copics.

That's... that's a lot of colors.
But sure, I'll run you through my process.
I start by working out all the dark shadows on my characters using BV13 (it makes a nice shadow for most colors, and adds a nice contrast to most of the colors in this piece). For the most part, I tend to work dark to light, though the fire was an exception where I did the reverse. So I'll do my best to break down the characters here. All colors are listed from darkest to lightest in that particular object's gradation:
BOWSER--E31, YR20 for the mouth and stomach shell; Y28, Y26, Y21 for the skin; B91 overlaid with C1 for the white of the shell and claws and teeth; spiked bracelets were a combination of C9, C7, C5, C3, and C1; the green of the face was YG67, G82, and YG03; hair and eyebrows were E09, YR04, and Y08; horns and shell spike were Y28 and Y31; base of horns were Y28, E35, and E31; eyes were R39 and R08 (whites of everyone's eyes were B91 up top and slight bits of Y11 for the fiery reflection).
PEACH--Skin tone was R02, YR00, and E01 (blush was RV32); eyes, earrings and blue crown jewels were B18 and B04 (reflections in her eyes were YR15 and Y11); mouth was R39, tongue was R85 and RV32; red crown jewel was R39 and R08; gloves (Mario and Luigi's included) were B91 with a Y11 highlight; hair was Y28, Y26, Y31, Y13; main dress was R85, RV32 (layered with RV23); dress bustling and trim was R39, RV25, and possibly a bit of R85; shoe was R39, R08 and R14.
MARIO--Skin was R02, YR00, and E01; blacks of 'stache, brows and eyes were 100 (black), E59, YR15 and Y11; eyes were B16, B04, YR15 and Y11; hair was E99 and E35; mouth was R39 (tongue R85 and RV32); reds were R39, R29 and R08; blues were B16 and and B04; button was Y28, Y26 and Y11; shoes were E57, E37, E33 and E31 (soles were Y28 and E31).
LUIGI--Skin, hair, 'stache, mouth and button are all the same as Mario; eyes were BG45 and BG23, with YR15 and Y11; tongue was R85, RV32 and RV00; teeth were B91 shades and Y11 highlights; blues were B97 and B95; greens were G28, G07, FYG2 and YG03 as a highlight; socks were same as Mario's red plus B91 and Y11 for the white stripe; shoes were E59, E57 and E35 (soles were E59, Y28 and E31.
All characters had some amount of Y11 added to parts of them to show the reflected firelight.
FLAMES-- Starting with the lightest color (Y11), I mapped out where I wanted my whitest areas to be, then worked in an outward gradient from there using the following colors (YR31, YR15, YR04 and YR68). I watched an animated gif of fire crackling to get an idea of how the flames would look overlapping one another and added wisps of darker colors to break up the lighter spaces as I went (it was very tedious). Once I finished the fire, I then had a better idea what color to add to the characters to have the firelight properly affect them (Y11).
The background was just an upward gradation through E09, E37, E59/E19 mix, E59, E49, 100, and finally 110.
Considering I colored the image in about that order, I still think the characters reflect the light somewhat accurately.
Well, maybe not Luigi. But since when does he ever do what he's supposed to do?
