This stuff is awesome! I noticed most of the footage available is labeled "legacy". Have they hired some better environment artists since then? I mean, what they have to show is like... programmer art

Yeah, any stills in the video are basically old work predating our studio or bare-bones preliminary work done in Unity. We're still in the process of building an art team and waiting to see what happens with our engine license before we start to lay out a lot of the groundwork regarding our in-game assets.

Good luck! Game development can be pretty messy

Oh absolutely, but even with the stress and demand it's a blast. It helps that OPEN avoids a lot of policies and attitudes that make working for some other studios a complete nightmare (from what I understand).

Smaller studios are waaaay better about it imo, which it sounds like you're a part of. It's a pretty great industry regardless. My only advice is to pace yourself. It's super easy to burn out if you're not paying attention.

For sure, especially when you're working from home without a set schedule to keep yourself on regular hours. But I'm managing, and I've got some non-game projects on the side to keep things from getting stale.
So wait, are you employed now? Talking from experience?

yeah, been an environment artist for a couple years now. Also why I haven't really made anything here for a while.

I had no idea! That's kind of nifty. Where are you working?
