Description another piece for Toronto Outdoor Art. the concept behind this is a little shaky... something to do with how pop culture tells us who to be, blah blah blah.

moreover, i had a lot of fun putting this one together.

Whoa amazing art! Is this a satire about consumption society?
Whatever it can be, I like this picture. It's brilliant.

Looks like it would make a good sculpture if you ask me.

if i had any mastery over the 3rd dimension, i would give it a try... but as it stands, i'm hopeless at sculpture...

but i agree; it'd make a sweet-ass sculpture.

You could always sell the idea to some sculpturist (is that even a word?)

I'm just kidding around with you. Everyone at OCAD is really down to earth, unlike when I was at Sheridan.

How'd the outdoor artshow go? My BF did end up going as was really impressed with everyones work!

it went really well. made a lot of contacts and sold a few pieces. the weather was awesome and i even managed to do a bit of tanning. did some body painting on saturday which was cool, and almost got killed by a crazy street person. 'twas eventful

fearn In reply to brainleakage [2006-07-11 13:36:58 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like it was a good time. I can't tan. I burn to a crispy little wafer. Then I peel and look liek crap! lol too pale.

brainleakage In reply to fearn [2006-07-13 04:19:58 +0000 UTC]

yeah, it was awesome. i'll have to send you pictures once i get the files from my friend who was taking pictures. cheers to being pale as anything. and hey, have you signed up for your courses yet? i might possibly be in one of your classes second semester. I'm re-taking the Drawing and Painting for illustrators. ILLU 3A03. lemme know which one you chose...*grin*

fearn In reply to brainleakage [2006-07-13 21:21:18 +0000 UTC]

Right now I'm signing up for the one on Monday and Thrus, but it might change because my schedule is being a b*tch and I still have a 0.50 tranferable credit to use from Sheridan that was supposed to be using 2nd year Painting for Illustrators that ceased to exist for my year. I keep on being sent around to different people on who to talk about it to! Thankfully, I saved my transcripts AND the emails that Tammy Madden sent me first year about them... Just in case I get screwed over...

I wish I never went to Sheridan! Then I'd be in your year! lol. But then again, I wouldn't have met my BF, so it evens out..

Be sure to post the pictures, or send them to my email! ash.cruikshank@gmail.com

BTW, I think I saw you a few times 2nd semester on the 6th floor.. but I'm way too shy to approach people.. Especially if I don't even know if it's that person for sure! lol

that's the class that i'll be in. the mon and thurs one. wouldn't that just be too funny if we ended up in a class together. and yeah, it's possible you've seen me around. i live at the school. i work at Island Foods. beat that.

fearn In reply to brainleakage [2006-07-16 16:00:35 +0000 UTC]

hah! awesome. hopefully I won't have to change that part of my schedule.. The stupid electives are killing me for organizing my classes.. Urg.

Hey, you're lucky.. I have to fucking GO Train it everyday from Burlington.

marijke In reply to brainleakage [2006-07-07 01:01:14 +0000 UTC]

Yes, yes. So I thought it was something to do with globalization, or advertising all over the world or something.

brainleakage In reply to marijke [2006-07-07 05:33:38 +0000 UTC]

it can pretty much have whatever meaning you bring to it. *grin* there have been lots of different interpretations of this piece already, so i'll just add globalization to the list...

Nice concept. I like the achromaticness of the face compared to the adverts and bold pop culture representatives.

i was actually going to use media logos and stuff like nike and ibm and whatever, but i thought i'd be a little too obvious that way. i'm much happier with this instead. thanks so much your comment, man!

Very very nice! I love the little sarcastic looking glance in her eyes. As if she's not to take all the adverts and shite seriously, and just wants to do her own thing. Bit like you I can imagine. I love it! and you've got yourself a fav!

brainleakage In reply to 0xanathos0 [2006-07-06 14:38:23 +0000 UTC]

thanks. yeah, the concept behind this one was left fairly open. i kind of wanted people to take whatever they wanted from this. it's interesting that you thought her expression looked sarcastic, because someone else thought she looked positively freaked out...i love how people can see different things in my work. thanks so much for the fav!

I like this one a lot Walker! Especially the hot pink, just as the other poster said. The only I personally don't really see as something necessary, is the "sensor" right over her mouth. Even though it's not "censor" it still implies that... I just think it's a bit too obvious to be needed in this case since she's quite clearly gagged by the way you've pasted over her mouth.... Does that make sense? Or am I just rambling? lol Regardless though., I like this one. You draw the best expressive eyes

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

brainleakage In reply to fearn [2006-07-06 14:34:02 +0000 UTC]

it actually reads "sensory". i wasn't going for "censorship" at all. it was supposed to be, like, deprivation of senses... *shrug*

but thanks so much for the crit. MUCH appreciated.

i'm pretty deprived right now as well, so don't worry about it, man. no problems.
