Description
February 27th marked the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon series when the first games; Pokemon Red & Green, were released in Japan. I'm a lil' over a year older than Pokemon! I'm gonna go down memory lane for a bit.I wasn't a big fan at the beginning, being super young. I always did think it was kinda cool and watched the show a bit. It wasn't until I was like 10-11 years old, or in 5th grade as I more clearly remember it, was when I REALLY got into Pokemon. With Pokemon RUBY.
Well sorta, I think I was just hanging out at my cousin's place when I decided to try it out in their multipak cartridge. Which unfortunately couldn't save so I'd be forced to leave the system on all the time, which I wasn't cool with. I also didn't have my own Game Boy Advance at the time so yeah. I really loved it, and wanted to play more..
EVENTUALLY I finally got my own Pokemon Ruby game! But not a GBA, I borrowed a neighbour's/cousin's GBAs for a bit. Before I finally got my own gamebody advance SP. Kinda rough, but I finally got to enjoy Pokemon Ruby much more. To the point that it felt like I was developing an unhealthy addiction to pokemon lol..
I remember getting a really bad stomachache at school presumably from eating bad hashbrowns for breakfast, and was picked up by my dad and went home early. Even though I was in pain and lying in bed, I decided to continue playing more Pokemon Ruby! I couldn't bring my GBA and Pokemon games to school because my parents didn't allow it. I tried to keep it on the down low so my dad wouldn't suspect me faking my sickness to play Pokemon haha..
After that I got Pokemon Emerald, and then leafgreen in the same generation. I unfortunately lost my Ruby/Leafgreen cartridges though, but I still have my Emerald!
Ever since I've been a huge Pokemaniac. Got Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Soulsilver, Platinum, White, Black 2, X, and Omega Ruby. I make sure I get at least one game from each of the 2 version releases, and those 'definitive' standalone 3rd games I had to get. I'd usually spend at LEAST 100 hours on each game.
There are so many things about the Pokemon series that I like, from the competitive battling (I spent some time in Shoddy Battle and still frequent Smogon at times), to the Pokemon designs, to the stories, tons of stuff. The designs in particular inspired me to make my own 'Fakemon' (Fake Pokemon) a while back, and that was fun. I feel I should get back into it someday..
What I can say about what the Pokemon games have given me for sure, is TONS OF FUN. Through my younger days as a 10-11 year old Brian Junior, through my awkward preteen and highschool years, and even now as a 20 (soon 21) year old man. Even when I'm not currently playing a Pokemon game, I REALLY love it. I'd say I'm a hardcore Pokemon fan. Well, of just the mainline games but yeah I digress.
SO for the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon series I drew this kinda sentimental comic. I've always liked Mudkip the most of the Hoenn starters, and Ruby was my first game, so I drew lil' Brian junior playing with his Mudkip. And then me as I am now on the bottom, patting my Mega Swampert 'McMuscles' on the head in Omega Ruby, the last Pokemon game I've played. I guess that makes the transition even more perfect eh? I've really grown up with Pokemon.
Here's to another good 20 years! I have yet to feel like they're getting old with each new Pokemon game, as many dissenters say. In fact I have a hard line stance that each new Pokemon game is BETTER than the last! So I'm really looking forward to Pokemon Sun & Moon, and what new changes, characters, region, and Pokemon it brings!

Super cute, man! Your drawing gives out a super warm and happy feeling.
The funniest thing was that I was planning on drawing something very similar to this, haha. It's awesome to see the idea already having been drawn.
My first game was sapphire and starter was treecko. Went into the game completely blind and had so many "whoa, what was that?!" moments. I grabbed AlphaSapphire last year and chose treecko again. The nostalgia hit was amazing.

Oh man, this is too real! Mudkip was my first actual pokemon too, Ruby being my first ever pokemon game as well, and of course when Omega came around I started with it again
This is a great piece, man, that really hits home. Well done!

Thanks, it's good to know that you could relate to this comic of mine, and my own pokemon memories by extension. I appreciate it
