Amiera woke with a start hearing loud clunking noises and the roar of an engine. Slowly the engine died away, but the battering of something against metal continued. She scrambled up and gazed over the fence from her paddock. Stablehands unlocked the ramp of the trailer and scattered, letting it fall. A piercing scream came from within and a stallion emerged, the white parts of his harlequine patterning glowing in the moonlight. The lilac mare whickered softly, and the stallion swung in her direction and called again. Screaming, he jumped the high fence and landed in the paddock with her.
