Description I drew the piece on the left when I was 18, in 2006. I drew the one on the right just now.

As embarrassing as it is to post such old artwork I was really happy with the results, and encourage everyone to try this at least once~

You've really come into yourself. You have developed much more of a personal style. I don't know much about art, but I do know that this illustrates a definition maturation. You've really grown as an artist. Just imagine how wonderful 2016 will look!

I am glad to see that you grew out of a "Megatokyo" drawing phase. I think anyone who stays there should get all the ridicule they can get

I must say, however, the sketch lines on the 2011 somewhat get in the way, and it seems to need a general "cleaning up"- for one, the 2011 drawing seems to be "smaller" then the other.

Keep at it, BC.

Thanks~! Hehe, it does seem like most people I know who still draw went through a similar 'phase'. XD

I really like this comparison. It makes me think of how a person's art and characters grow and mature along with them through time. I really love your style. It's very unique and has a very friendly charm to it.

Anime style is cute too. But your realistic style give a more unique touch to your arts.

Wow! I didn't know you used to have a more...animesque...style.

I like this one though. It's more distinctly "yours".

XD hehe thanks! Yeah, back in the day, like most kids at my school, I was a little anime-head.

I'm glad you like my current style though, I'm much happier with it~ <3

Yay less weeby more awesome <3

Everyone starts out in anime style it seems. It's a bit of a crutch imo, glad you got away from it

Hehe, thanks a lot~ <3 I'm glad I finally was able to shake the 'anime rut' as I call it too. @.@

I definitely agree that it seems as though everyone starts out with an 'anime' style and then (sometimes) progresses to more developed work. I have nothing against people who chose to use anime/manga 'style' but in my personal opinion it shouldn't be a persons 'end goal' artistically speaking.

I actually prefer the 2006 one, but that is propably because it looks more like anime, but meh! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right?

GoldenFantasyArts In reply to Shiro-Austin [2011-02-17 22:17:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry for you. :/ You should appreciate art in all forms. Then again, if you're young, it's hard to, since you haven't been all that exposed to the real world outside of family and school, so I can understand that.... But maybe that'll change for you once you're lived a little longer.

If you take a good look, though, you'll see just how much more time and effort has been put into the newer one as opposed to the older one. I feel it's quite deliberate the way she's put the newer one together whereas the old just looks as if it "happened". That's my opinion, at least.

I appreciate the time and effort, people put into drawing, mainly because I can't be bothered, if I draw, I spend like half an hour, but I think it is the style I prefer.
I also did not say I did not like the 2011 one, I just prefer the 2006 one

GoldenFantasyArts In reply to Shiro-Austin [2011-02-17 22:43:39 +0000 UTC]

Right, right... but I'm overall more for open-mindedness, especially when it comes to art. XD;; I didn't intend to sound mean or anything in that manner and I hope I didn't come across that way. But I do understand that there are influences on what we do and do not like, I just find it in a way depressing that there's such vast improvement that very few people (at least with deviantArt-goers in general) seem to appreciate because of stylistic reasons.

I'm sure you did not mean to sound like mean, and I also did not want to sound like I did not appreciate the time you put into your art, I apologise if i came off like that.

Ahaha, it's not my art. I'm just friends with her. LOL, sorry if that confused you. It's all good <3

To be honest, I like the 2006 one better... :/

BrokenCassette In reply to ItachiUchihaProdigy [2011-02-17 23:21:55 +0000 UTC]

Fair enough. Is it because it's in an "anime" style, or is there something else you're basing that decision on?

ItachiUchihaProdigy In reply to BrokenCassette [2011-02-19 17:40:57 +0000 UTC]

It's just my view ^^) I'm not saying you're a bad artist at all ^^ You're better than a Hell of a lot of people, It's just that I can see the clothes and accessories clearer in the 2006 picture. ^^

GoldenFantasyArts In reply to ItachiUchihaProdigy [2011-02-17 22:14:38 +0000 UTC]

Is there anything specific that you like better? I mean, after all, I think there's more depth to the 2011 one, a better handle on anatomy and much more humanising and down to earth. I mean, all in all, there's more feeling and effort put into the newer one. It wasn't just something that happened, it was done on purpose, intentionally.

If it's solely because of the style it's in, that's no good reason to. But to each his own.

ItachiUchihaProdigy In reply to GoldenFantasyArts [2011-02-19 17:38:42 +0000 UTC]

-sigh- I simply prefer the 2006 drawing better because the style is cleaner. The clothes and facial features are apparent. I don't hate the other picture, But in my view, which is one out of six hundred odd billion, I like the 2006 picture better ^^ I'm simply saying that the clothes and accessories in the first picture are apparent. And I don't prefer that picture just BECAUSE it's in an anime style (^^

Ahhh, so if it was just the lines for the other one, you'd be okay with it? I'm just trying to get a feel for what you're saying is all. Simplistic shading for distinction versus crosshatching.

But thank you for writing out a thoughtful reply. It gives me hope for the world. ^^
